It becomes quite hard / nigh hopeless to even learn a rythm game (a primitive comparison to this tick cycle) if the rythm keeps changing constantly, mostly as a result of server lag. True, it could be a big job to rework the entire system.
Everything would need to be slowed down (need more ticks) so keeps exactly the same speed as now. Everything but the time for the server to respond to your activities (queing an ability, recognizing where youd wish to move). As it might create a collection of items to fix, it may seem like a minor thing, but the choice is to get things to remain exactly like they are.
