Mercedes team principal  토토 believes that there are five or six teams that can win Formula 1 races in the future.

Wolff is of the opinion that F1’s new regulations, aimed to make for more wheel-to-wheel action, will see more contenders emerge.

“Of course, the teams that had deep pockets weren’t particularly happy that we lost an advantage there,” he told Auto Motor und Sport.

“But the whole thing had degenerated into an arms race between Red Bull, Ferrari and us. Now everything will be more balanced.

“I think there are five or six teams that can win in the future. That’s good for sports. It’s not always the same team that wins the Super Bowl.”

Wolff also had his say on the development of the cars for the upcoming season. 2022 will, of course, see a bunch of new aerodynamic regulations come into effect.

As such, it is a clean slate for many teams ahead of the upcoming season. And Wolff predicts that the car development is very hard to call as things stand.

“If someone finds a loophole and runs away with it, everyone will recreate it,” he said.

“The cars will all be very similar. There can still be differences in the first year. After that, it will balance out. There will no longer be a team a second ahead.

“The development curve for the 2022 cars is currently rising so steeply that you cannot predict who will do it better and smarter.”

How prepared are Toto Wolff and Mercedes for 2022 season?
The Mercedes F1 team have revealed the launch date of their 2022 car. The 2021 constructor’s champions, who are aiming for a ninth straight team title, announced their launch date on Tuesday (January 18).

Taking to social media, the team shared a teaser. “18/2/22. Meet the Mercedes-AMG F1 W13 E Performance,” they said along with a graphic depicting the date.

The team have been teasing their new-look car for a while. There’s also been rumours the team will return to their silver livery from next season.

Mercedes are now the fourth team to have announced their launch date. The first team to do so was Aston Martin, who said the AMR22 will be revealed on February 10.

The second team to have announced their launch date was Ferrari. The Maranello-based side will reveal their 2022 machine on February 17.
