Dubai hosts some of most luxurious hotels. Its Burj al-Arab is considered the only hotel with a 7-star rating that is in existence. It is a masterpiece of architecture with a height of 963 feet above sea level. This makes it the highest all-suite hotel around the world. The design, in the form of a flowing sailing dhow represents the rich history of Dubai. The hotel is situated on an artificial island linked with a curving causeway the mainland. The major supermarkets and chain retail stores have fixed prices, however, in many of the local stores and the souks, bargaining is still believed to be the most effective method of purchasing.
Apart from retail shopping Dubai is home to a variety of other attractions for visitors. Dubai Fountain, located in the downtownarea, is the world's largest and most impressive fountain. Then there's the Dubai Aquarium, one of the largest aquariums in the world containing over 33,000 aquatic animals including sharks and stingrays. Visitors can take a stroll into the glass passageway to get stunning views of the aquatic life. You can also go swimming with sharks on public shark dives or, for the more sedate visitors, glass bottom boats skim across the upper part of the aquarium for views that are a bit different. Dubai also is home to Ski Dubai, an indoor ski slope located in the middle of the Arabian Desert.
Because Dubai is situated on the coast of the Persian Gulf, visitors can relax on the beach or travel two hours and be in the desert where camels roam free. Dubai is dry and hot with temperatures ranging from to a low of 57° in winter and temperatures of 108 degrees during the summer. Loose, modest clothing is recommended due to the beliefs of the people of the country, as well as to remain comfortable in the high temperatures.
