Asia Cup 2022: Former Indian skipper Virat Kohli has long been slammed for his inability to score runs on a consistent basis. He clearly struggled to add runs whenever he came out to bat for Team India.

The right-handed batsman has been dismissed for a series for cheap scores. Moreover, he has also been dismissed in a unluckiest manner, which has been disappointing for him and for the team.

Meanwhile, the Indian fans are eagerly waiting for him to rise from the ashes and score a big knock and end his international century drought.

He was last seen lifting his bat after scoring a century during a day-night pink-ball Test against Bangladesh in 2019. Little did everyone know that his form would deteriorate bit by bit since then.

So, it’s been almost three years since he scored a century in international cricket. Virat Kohli also recently skipped the team’s tour of West Indies (three ODIs and five T20Is).

In fact, he is also not part of the upcoming team’s tour of Zimbabwe. India will play three-match ODI series. The first ODI will kick off on August 18 at Harare Sports Club.

Asia Cup 2022: Virat Kohli has the tools to come out of poor form, says Mahela Jayawardene

Meanwhile, former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene stated that Virat Kohli has all the tools and ingredients to come out of poor form. He further added that it is unfortunate what Kohli is experiencing right now. However, at the same time, he also heaped praise on Kohli calling him a “quality player”.

Jayawardene also remarked that Kohli has done that in the past too. So he believes that Kohli will come through this form before adding that class is permanent and form is just temporary.

“It is unfortunate what Virat is going through right now at the moment, but he is a quality player. I believe Virat has the tools to come out of it (the form slump),” he added.

“He has done that in the past as well and I’m sure he’ll come through this. Class is permanent and form is temporary,” former Sri Lankan cricketer Mahela Jayawardene said.

Last but not least Jayawardene spoke about having Rishabh Pant as an opener. Talking about the same, he said Pant has all the potential to open the innings. He further added that Pant is going to be a natural player for India and it is a good option to have him as an opener.

“Even though he (Rishabh Pant) hasn’t done that (open the batting) much in domestic cricket, he has the capacity to do that. Wherever he bats, you’re not going to change his game. He is going to be a very natural player so yes, it is an option (for Pant to open)”, Jayawardene further said.
