Indian dishes are broadly different and delicious because of the different variety of flavors and regions. Indian dishes are continually put on foodie’s lists all over the world. But that’s not enough.

Why you should visit an authentic Indian restaurant:

Indian Food is Healthy

Authentic Indian recipes consist of organic ingredients or spices that are healthy. Examples of common spices like Turmeric help in inflammation, prevention of Alzheimer’s, and improving the health of the heart. However Indian dishes are rich in a different variety of grains, nuts, pulses, and seeds. Indian dishes provide many health benefits that make it to be on the menus at many detox retreats.

Here is the list of Indian food dishes

1. Chicken Makhani (Butter Chicken)

Butter chicken is a mouth-watering dish, prepared in a spiced tomato sauce. Traditionally it’s cooked in a tandoor. But now it also can be grilled, roasted, or pan-fried. They prepare the gravy by initially cooking fresh tomato, garlic, and cardamom down into a light red pulp. Then they made a puree of the pulp after cooling it and added butter, various spices, and Khoya. Whereas a lot of traditional Indian food uses meat, there are many Indian vegetarian dishes. You can make your own vegetarian dish  by substituting chicken with tofu.

2. Samosas (Deep Fried Potato)

Samosas is a very popular traditional Indian snack/dish. I think this is because samosas are a tasty, fried, or baked pastry with salty fillings. Spiced potatoes, onions, peas, and other vegetables fill traditional samosas. But sometimes, there are non vegetarian fillings in the samosa which make it unique. So here is some good news for all of the Indian food lovers and solely plant-based eaters. Indian samosas are generally vegan! So that means the pastry is eggless and free of dairy products. Samosas are often served with a sweet mint sauce or chutney. This is common street food. Hence you will observe that some of the  tourists and Indians like to eat samosa as a midday snack.

3. Aloo Gobi (Potato and Cauliflower)

Aloo Gobi is a dry and famous Indian dish. People prepare it with potatoes(Aloo), cauliflower(gobhi) and Indian spices. It has a light, yellow-orange color, because they use a spice in Indian dishes: turmeric. Aloo Gobi occasionally contains black caraway and curry leaves as well. Other common ingredients like garlic, ginger, onion, coriander stalks, tomato, peas, and cumin etc. Hence throw it all together to roast in the pan and you will get one of the most popular dishes mostly in Indian restaurants.

4. Naan (Flatbread)

Your life has been much less delicious than it could be, if you have never experienced any good naan. Naan is an oven-baked flatbread. You can normally serve Naan with all meals. However this bread is the perfect combination of chewy and crispy in texture, buttery and garlicky in taste.  An Indian meal is incomplete without naan. There are many different types of naan bread available in Indian food dishes, depending on what you’re wanting for.

  • Butter and garlic naan bread
  • Paneer naan
  • Chili naan
  • Plain naan.

5. Matar Paneer (peas and cottage cheese)

Matar paneer is famous in northern India. Because it’s made up of a different light red tomato sauce over paneer and peas, and spiced up with garam masala. Matar paneer is best when paired with naan, rice, paratha, puri or roti(depending on the region)and side dishes, like cream or bread. Like many Indian dishes. Enjoy dipping the naan into the matar paneer. But you can choose yogurt, aloo or cream to pair with this dish.

6. Tandoori Chicken

Tandoori chicken is a famous North Indian dish. It includes roasted chicken prepared with a mixture of yogurt and spices. The name comes from a tandoor, in which they prepare this dish traditionally. Hence the chicken is marinated in yogurt and seasoned with the mixture of spices tandoori masala. Traditionally Indian chefs use cayenne pepper, red chili powder, or Kashmiri red chili powder to give it a fiery red color. This dish is served with steaming basmati rice or crispy naan.

7. Chana Aloo Curry (chickpeas and potatoes curry)

A stuffy blend of ginger, tomato, curry, and garlic marinates potatoes, chickpeas, and onions. However, these veggies and spices blend together to create the final dish, Chana Aloo Curry. However, more traditional recipes may be spiced with chili or cayenne pepper.

8. Chutney

Chutney is a sauce that is a flavorful sweet match to salty samosas. They prepare this sauce by using many different kinds of fruits, herbs, and spices. Vegans, this is one for you. Also make this chutney with brown sugar, turmeric, and red wine vinegar. Hence adding a sprinkle of mango chutney is a tangy treat in a world of Indian spiciness.
