A report has suggested that a sequel of the cult classic horror film “The Exorcist” is in the making.

A report has emerged courtesy of The Observer that David Gordon Green (famed for directing the 2018 film “Halloween”) is in communication with a production house to helm the sequel. According to the report, Blumhouse Productions (Insidious, Get Out) and Morgan Creek (The Fourth Kind, The Thing) are all set to produce the film.

The film is in the early development stage and currently does not hold a release date. However, the report from Observer has suggested that Jason Blum, David Robinson, and James Robinson will oversee the development of the project as the executive producers.

Since the development is at the early stage, the cast and the plot of the movie are undecided or have not been revealed.

The report shared by Observer has arrived some days after William Friedkin (the director of the 1973 film) revealed that he would exclude himself from any new versions of the film should they be made in the future. It is understandable since he has been consistent in his stance and has never involved himself in any spin offs based on his creation.

The 1973 film was the masterpiece, and as you know, it has inspired countless spinoffs and other projects. However, William Friedkin has not involved himself in any of that.

David Gordon Green’s film will not be the first sequel made based on “The Exorcist.” Several iterations of the sequel have arrived in theaters since 1973, but none of them have succeeded in impressing the audience and the critics.

William Friedkin revealed via a tweet on December the 16th that no money or motivation is present in this world that can compel him to join the team making a sequel of his film.

A very close source to David Gordon Green revealed to IndieWire that David is indeed in contact with Blumhouse Productions for the sequel.

The Exorcist is still one of the most influential horror films ever made, and it is no wonder that the story of it was based on a real story. However, we will not go into too much detail about the 1949 case of a boy named “Roland Doe.”

David Gordon Green’s film “Halloween” was a successful venture and its sequels are due to arrive in 2021 and 2022. “Halloween” was the direct sequel of the 1978 film.

The re-adaptation of another (slasher) horror film, “The Texas Chain Saw Massacre,” is also in production.
