Does my House have Termites? – Is there a Risk of Termite Attack, based on the building and grounds?
In Sydney, if the Building contains major timber elements, the risk is moderate to high, depending on the relationship between the building, the site, termite management systems and any past Termite Activity.
Research developed by the CSIRO rates Sydney as the second highest risk category for termite attack in Australia, second only to the tropical regions in the far North. This means that every property in Sydney is at high risk of termite attack. There are several hundred species of termites in Australia. The species that causes the most damage to Sydney homes are the group known as subterranenan termites. Subterranenan termites invade buildings from a complex network of tunnels underground, often radiating some distance from the main nest colony (50 metres). Mound building species and even some aborial (tree dwelling) termites are also included in this group.
