We advocate this approach to be a feasible and easy-to-implement assay that may be particularly useful to improve patient management during high influx crisis. We believe with this work to contribute to improving infrastructure availability and case management associated with COVID-19 pandemic hurdles.The Al-20Si-5Fe-3Cu-1Mg alloy was fabricated using selective laser melting (SLM). The microstructure and properties of the as-prepared SLM, post-treated SLM, and SLM with substrate plate heating are studied. The as-prepared SLM sample shows a non-uniform microstructure with four different phases fcc-αAl, eutectic Al-Si, Al2MgSi, and δ-Al4FeSi2. With thermal treatment, the phases become coarser and the δ-Al4FeSi2 phase transforms partially to β-Al5FeSi. The sample produced with SLM substrate plate heating shows a relatively uniform microstructure without a distinct difference between hatch overlaps and track cores. Room temperature compression test results show that an as-prepared SLM sample reaches a maximum strength (862 MPa) compared to the heat-treated (524 MPa) and substrate plate heated samples (474 MPa) due to the presence of fine microstructure and the internal stresses. The reduction in strength of the sample produced with substrate plate heating is due to the coarsening of the microstructure, but the plastic deformation shows an improvement (20%). The present observations suggest that substrate plate heating can be effectively employed not only to minimize the internal stresses (by impacting the cooling rate of the process) but can also be used to modulate the mechanical properties in a controlled fashion.Synthetic biphasic calcium phosphate (BCP) granules and powder are biocompatible biomaterials with a well-known capacity for osteoconduction, presenting very satisfactory clinical and histological results. Patients with primary osteoarthritis who underwent aTSA with a stemless implant and a pegged glenoid between January 2011 and December 2016 were extracted from a local registry. Anteroposterior radiographs were evaluated at six, 12, 24 months, and five years post-TSA for lateral humeral offset (LHO), joint gap (JG), acromiohumeral distance (AHD), and radiolucency (modified Franklin score); 147 patients were included. Mixed-model linear regression was used. Both constant score (CS) and subjective shoulder value (SSV) markedly decreased at five years follow-up compared to one year (p less then 0.001 for both). AHD, LHO, and JG all showed a consistent and statistically significant decline over time, with the joint gap decreasing by half. Consistently, smaller JG and AHD were correlated with lower SSV (p = 0.03 and p = 0.07, respectively). Massive loosening was associated with a 14.5 points lower SSV (p less then 0.01). Finally, narrowing of the JG was significantly correlated with increased radiolucency (p less then 0.001) and tended toward worse SSV (p = 0.06). In summary, radiographic parameters displaying medialization and cranialization after aTSA with a cemented pegged glenoid are useful predictors of impaired shoulder function.This study investigated the influence of rice straw ash (RSA), rice husk ash (RHA), and silica fume (SF) on alkali activated **** (AAS) systems. RSA, RHA, and SF were treated with sodium hydroxide to improve their reactivity in AAS systems. Although addition of SF in AAS systems increased compressive strength, samples containing RSA or RHA had higher compressive strength than those having SF. Treated RSA or RHA further increased compressive strength of AAS samples. It was shown that samples containing treated ash samples had similar compressive strength to those made with sodium silica activator. Therefore, it is suggested that treated ash samples could be used as alternative sources of silica for AAS. Drying shrinkage of AAS samples increased considerably when treated RSA or RHA were used as partial replacement of ****. This could be attributed to higher silica modulus (SiO2/Na2O) ratio of samples containing treated ash, which in turn would lead to a finer pore size structure compared to control samples. However, SF significantly reduced drying shrinkage of AAS. This study aimed to evaluate the kinetics of antioxidant properties of the adipomyokine irisin administered shortly before or after macrophage activation to assess its effect on the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2 (Nrf2)/heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1)/HMGB1 pathway. The studies were performed on RAW 264.7 mouse macrophages treated with irisin (0, 25, and 50 nM) 2 h before or after lipopolysaccharide (LPS) stimulation. The effectiveness of respiratory burst and the expression of key factors of the antioxidant pathway, such as HO-1, Nrf2, superoxide dismutase 1 (***-1), ***-2, glutathione peroxidase (GPx), catalase-9 (Cat-9), and HMGB1, were assessed. Irisin (50 nM) effectively reduced the free-radical production by macrophages.

Healthcare associated infections (HAI) are estimated to affect up to 15% of hospital inpatients in low-income countries (LICs). A critical but often neglected aspect of HAI prevention is basic environmental hygiene, particularly surface cleaning and linen management. TEACH CLEAN is an educational intervention aimed at improving environmental hygiene. We evaluated the effectiveness of this intervention in a pilot study in three high-volume maternity and newborn units in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania.
This study design prospectively evaluated the intervention as a whole, and offered a before-and-after comparison of the impact of the main training. We measured changes in microbiological cleanliness [Aerobic Colony Counts (ACC) and presence of Staphylococcus aureus] using dipslides, and physical cleaning action using gel dots. These were analysed with descriptive statistics and logistic regression models. We used qualitative (focus group discussions, in-depth interviews, and semi-structured observation) and quantitroved microbiological cleanliness is a key step on the pathway to infection prevention in hospitals. Future research should assess whether this bundle is cost-effective in reducing bacterial and viral transmission and infection using a rigorous study design.

Although conventional therapies including bisphosphonates, calcitonin and oestrogen-like drugs can be used to treat degenerative diseases of the bone, they are often associated with serious side effects including the development of oesophageal cancer, ocular inflammation, severe musculoskeletal pain and osteonecrosis of the jaw.The use of autologous mesenchymal stromal cells/mesenchymal stem cells (****) is a possible alternative therapeutic approach to tackle osteoporosis while overcoming the limitations of traditional treatment options. However, osteoporosis can cause a decrease in the numbers of ****, induce their senescence and lower their osteogenic differentiation potential.Three-dimensional (3D) cell culture is an emerging technology that allows a more physiological expansion and differentiation of stem cells compared to cultivation on conventional flat systems.This review will discuss current understanding of the effects of different 3D cell culture systems on proliferation, viability and osteogenic differentiation, as well as on the immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory potential of ****.
Existing self-management and behavioural interventions for diabetes vary widely in their content, and their sustained long-term effectiveness is uncertain. Autonomy supporting interventions may be a prerequisite to achieve 'real life' patient engagement and more long-term improvement through shared decision-making and collaborative goal setting. Autonomy supportive interventions aim to promote that the person with diabetes' motivation is autonomous meaning that the person strives for goals they themselves truly believe in and value. This is the goal of self-determination theory and guided self-determination interventions. Validation of a test method is critical for confirming that the test can generate accurate and precise data. Although commercial biochemical test kits exist there are no specific and validated commercial clinical chemistry test kits designed for horses. The aim of this study was to validate commercial clinical chemistry test kits designed for a human serum for use in horses.
Blood samples were collected from 29 apparently healthy adult male horses and pooled serum was prepared. Validation comprises replication and recovery experiments. Total observable error (TE
), sigma (σ) metrics, and quality goal index (QGI) were used to support the validation studies. Intra- and inter-assay variability was 2.05% and 2.08%, 2.26% and 1.89%, 2.4% and 1.63%, for total cholesterol, urea and total protein, respectively; recovery was 99.46%, 97.32%, and 100.1% for total cholesterol, urea and total protein, respectively. Children with congenital anomalies of kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are at high risk of progressive deterioration of kidney function and further developing stage5 chronic kidney disease (CKD5), even after a successful surgery. This prospective study was designed to determine whether urinary biomarkers can predict progressive deterioration of kidney function in children with CAKUT.
The study included 50 consecutive children, aged < 14 years, who were diagnosed with congenital uropathies (PUV, VUR, and PUJO) and 20 age-matched controls. Examination of four urinary biomarkers, i.e., trefoil family factors (TFF) 1 and 3, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and microalbuminuria (MALB) was done at the beginning of follow-up. Kidney function was assessed, at the beginning and after 12-months of follow-up, by technetium-99m diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) and technetium-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scans. Progressive deterioration in the kidney function was defined as a fall rboring CAKUT. TFF3, with the strongest prediction of functional deterioration, is an emerging peptide showing sufficient potential to be included in the biomarker panel. Graphical abstract.

The role of aPL has been largely investigated in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with minimal data on other autoimmune rheumatic diseases. In this review, we aim to assess the prevalence of aPL in patients with inflammatory and autoimmune rheumatic and musculoskeletal diseases (RMDs) other than SLE, and their association with thrombosis.

Paraphaeosphaeria neglecta and Phoma bellendis were predominant in the xylem tissues of samples from the untreated and treated plots, respectively. Colletotrichum camelliae was the most commonly found species in leaf tissues in both plots, but the colonization frequency was significantly lower in the pesticide-treated plot. Species richness was not affected by pesticide treatment. Children with congenital anomalies of kidney and urinary tract (CAKUT) are at high risk of progressive deterioration of kidney function and further developing stage5 chronic kidney disease (CKD5), even after a successful surgery. This prospective study was designed to determine whether urinary biomarkers can predict progressive deterioration of kidney function in children with CAKUT. The study included 50 consecutive children, aged < 14 years, who were diagnosed with congenital uropathies (PUV, VUR, and PUJO) and 20 age-matched controls. Examination of four urinary biomarkers, i.e., trefoil family factors (TFF) 1 and 3, neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL) and microalbuminuria (MALB) was done at the beginning of follow-up. Kidney function was assessed, at the beginning and after 12-months of follow-up, by technetium-99m diethylene triamine pentaacetic acid (DTPA) and technetium-99m dimercaptosuccinic acid (DMSA) scans. Progressive deterioration in the kidney function was defined as a fall rboring CAKUT. TFF3, with the strongest prediction of functional deterioration, is an emerging peptide showing sufficient potential to be included in the biomarker panel. Graphical abstract. However, detected functional capacity varied, with C. fulviceps (a grass-wood-feeder) gut microbiome samples containing more genes related to amino acid metabolism, whereas N. aquilinus (a wood-feeder) gut microbiome samples were enriched in genes involved in carbohydrate metabolism and cellulose degradation. The C. fulviceps gut microbiome was enriched specifically in genes coding for debranching- and oligosaccharide-degrading enzymes. These findings suggest an association between the primary food source and the predicted categories of the enzymes present in the gut microbiomes of each species. To further investigate the termite microbiomes as sources of biotechnologically relevant glycosyl hydrolases, a putative GH10 endo-β-1,4-xylanase, Xyl10E, was cloned and expressed in Escherichia coli. Functional analysis of the recombinant metagenome-derived enzyme showed high specificity towards beechwood xylan (288.1 IU/mg), with the optimum activity at 50 °C and a pH-activity range from 5 to 10. By analysing the wave train transit times, we inferred the P-wave velocity within depth intervals displaying homogeneous sonic log properties, and estimated the rock density by applying an empirical relationship between the sonic velocity and density in sedimentary rocks. We compared these results with the main litho-stratigraphic units in stratigraphic profiles of the wells. From the density estimates, we inferred the trends of the vertical stress magnitude in the belt, eastern front and foredeep geodynamic domains. This work is a contribution to better interpretation of physical conditions at depth and provides data that can be applied to define more complete seismological, gravity and magnetic models. We provide data uncertainties that must be considered to ensure proper use of data and to evaluate the spatial resolution of the models derived from those data.There is mounting evidence of androgen receptor signaling inducing genome instability and changing DNA repair capacity in prostate cancer cells. The purpose of this work was to validate the correlation between LRG1 expression and prognosis in early breast cancer.
We utilized an LRG1 detection agent in 330 cases of early breast cancer. The correlation of LRG1 expression with clinicopathological features, patient recurrence, and survival was investigated.
Compared with adjacent tissue samples, an elevated expression of LRG1 was observed in breast cancer samples. Moreover, LRG1 expression is associated with the number of lymphatic metastases and TNM pathological stage (p = 0.000, p = 0.000, respectively). For disease-free survival (DFS), the Kaplan-Meier curve indicated a poorer prognosis for the group with high LRG1 levels compared with the low LRG1 group (p = 0.000). A similar result was found for overall survival (OS; p = 0.000). The multivariate Cox regression indicated that LRG1 was still associated with DFS (HR 2.090, 95% CI 1.205-3.625, p = 0.009) and OS (HR 2.112, 95% CI 1.167-3.822, p = 0.013). The histological grade, TNM pathological stage, and molecular subtype were identified as independent risk factors affecting OS.

This study aims to provide a conceptual framework based on technology aimed at mitigating trust issues in the consent management process.
The consent management process was modeled using established methodologies to obtain a mapping of trust issues. This mapping was then used to develop a conceptual framework based on previous monitoring and surveillance architectures for connected devices.
In this paper, we present a model that maps trust issues in the informed consent process; a conceptual framework capable of providing all the necessary underlining technologies, components, and functionalities required to develop applications capable of managing the process of informed consent for AAL, powered by blockchain technology to ensure transparency; and a diagram showing an instantiation of the framework with entities comprising the participants in the blockchain network, suggesting possible technologies that can be used.
Our conceptual framework provides all the components and technologies that are required to enhance the informed consent process. This article analyzes vaccine sentiments in the New York Times as a way of improving understanding of why existing persuasive approaches may be ineffective and offers insight into how existing methods might be improved. We categorize pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine arguments, offering an in-depth analysis of pro-vaccine appeals and tactics in particular to enhance current understanding of arguments that support vaccines.
Qualitative thematic analyses were used to analyze themes in rhetorical appeals across 808 vaccine-specific comments. Pro-vaccine and anti-vaccine comments were categorized to provide a broad analysis of the overall context of vaccine comments across viewpoints, with in-depth rhetorical analysis of pro-vaccine comments to address current gaps in understanding of pro-vaccine arguments in particular.
Appeals across 808 anti-vaccine and pro-vaccine comments were similar, though these appeals diverged in tactics and conclusions. Anti-vaccine arguments were more heterogeneous, deploying a wide range of arguments against vaccines. Additional analysis of pro-vaccine comments reveals that these comments use rhetorical strategies that could be counterproductive to producing persuasion. Pro-vaccine comments more frequently used tactics such as ad hominem arguments levied at those who refuse vaccines or used appeals to science to correct beliefs in vaccine skepticism, both of which can be ineffective when attempting to persuade a skeptical audience.

In the rural Kenyan diet, the bioavailability of iron is low and predisposes the population to iron deficiency. Fruit pulp of the indigenous baobab tree contains significant amounts of vitamin C, which enhances non-hemeiron bioavailability. We studied the impact of baobab fruit pulp (BFP) consumption on the hemoglobin (Hb) and iron status of Kenyan schoolchildren.
The single-blind randomized controlled intervention trial was implemented daily among apparently healthy schoolchildren aged 6-12years with hemoglobin level < 12.2g/dl. For 12weeks, children in the intervention group (n = 29) received a drink with BFP, while the control group (n = 29) received an isoenergy drink without BFP. At baseline and endline, blood samples were taken.
The development of hemoglobin, ferritin (FER) and soluble transferrin receptor (sTfR) did not differ significantly between the intervention and control groups. However, in the intervention group, Hb levels improved slightly (2.2%), while they decreased slightly (1.2%) in the control group. Levels of geometric means of sTfR remained almost unchanged (0.7%) in the intervention group and slightly worsened (2.7%) in the control group. In both the groups, geometric mean of FER levels decreased, yet to a smaller extent in the intervention (17.3%) than in the control (26.0%) group.

All consecutive patients undergoing elective SILS ileocaecal or redo ileocolic resection for primary and recurrent CD from 1 June 2018 to 31 May 2019 were included. Patients were matched 111 with laparoscopy and open surgery according to perianal disease, recurrent disease, penetrating phenotype of CD, history of previous abdominal surgery, preoperative medical treatment with steroids and anti-TNF. Postoperative morbidity within 30 days of surgery was the primary endpoint.

We investigated changes in the mitochondrial fission-fusion (MFF) dynamics in MC3T3-E1 cells on the NT surface with those on the ST surface by performing transmission electron microscopy (TEM), confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM) and real-time PCR. At the same time, we also detected changes in the MFF and osteogenic differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells after DRP1 downregulation with RNA interference. Cells on the NT surface exhibited more mitochondrial fusion than those on the ST surface, and DRP1 was the key regulatory molecule.

Training targeted towards improving cervical movement accuracy is an effective strategy in the management of neck pain. Relatively complex measures have been validated to measure this in research although a simple clinical measure using a head mounted laser tracing a standardised pattern has been shown to be reliable. The CCMS measure was assessed in 56 patients with chronic neck pain (41 intervention, 15 control) at baseline and 4 weeks post intervention by blinded assessors. Task completion time and error number were assessed reviewing video of the performances. Change pre-post intervention was compared between groups.
There was a significantly greater mean improvement in the intervention (-9.2±9.3) seconds) for completion time and combined time and error (-13.3±16) compared to the control group for time (-2.0±9.8) and combined time and error (-1.8±14) with moderate to high effect sizes (Cohen's d 0.76). There was a non-significant trend for decreased number of errors in the intervention (-4.1±9.0) compared to control group (0.2±8.3).
Completion time of the CCMS test appears to be able to demonstrate meaningful change following four weeks of KT. This further supports its clinical utility as a measure of cervical movement accuracy and provides direction for future clinical use.

Diclofenac sodium (DS) is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Although its high doses are known to cause toxic effects in many tissues including liver and kidney, the effects on the cardiovascular system (CVS) have not been fully elucidated yet. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of DS on CVS.
The Control group did not receive medication; however, a single dose of 240mg/kg DS was administered orally to the DS group. Electrocardiography (ECG) measurements were performed in all animals before (0thhour) and after (1st,6th,12th,24thhour) intoxication. After 24h, All animals were sacrificed. Biochemical (malondialdehyde Mda Training, and glutathione (GSH), Apelin, Elabela, Meteorin, Endoglin, Keap1, and Nrf2) and histopathological analyzes were performed on heart tissue samples.
ECG results showed that there was a statistically significant increase in QTc, QRS, and heart rate at the 12th and 24th hours in the DS group. The biochemical analysis showed that GSH, Apelin, Keap1, and NRF2 values decreased significantly while Meteorin and Endoglin levels increased in the DS group. When histopathological results were evaluated, distinct lesions were observed in the DS group.

Relatively complex measures have been validated to measure this in research although a simple clinical measure using a head mounted laser tracing a standardised pattern has been shown to be reliable. It is not known if this method demonstrate clinically meaningful change to training. To assess change responsiveness of the clinical cervical movement sense (CCMS) test following home kinematic training (KT). Pre-post treatment observational study. The CCMS measure was assessed in 56 patients with chronic neck pain (41 intervention, 15 control) at baseline and 4 weeks post intervention by blinded assessors. Task completion time and error number were assessed reviewing video of the performances. Change pre-post intervention was compared between groups. There was a significantly greater mean improvement in the intervention (-9.2±9.3) seconds) for completion time and combined time and error (-13.3±16) compared to the control group for time (-2.0±9.8) and combined time and error (-1.8±14) with moderate to high effect sizes (Cohen's d 0.76). There was a non-significant trend for decreased number of errors in the intervention (-4.1±9.0) compared to control group (0.2±8.3). Completion time of the CCMS test appears to be able to demonstrate meaningful change following four weeks of KT. This further supports its clinical utility as a measure of cervical movement accuracy and provides direction for future clinical use. As such, people with HIV are pursuing experiences that once escaped them, such as parenthood. One of the most important factors in reducing perinatal HIV transmission was, and still is, adequate planning. And pregnancy planning has a few additional implications for people affected by HIV, not unlike for people with other chronic illnesses. In 2018, the updated Canadian HIV Pregnancy Planning Guidelines (CHPPGs) were published with 36 recommendations. To help pregnancy care providers use the CHPPGs in pregnancy planning counselling for people living with HIV and their partners, this paper summarizes 5 key considerations in the modern era of HIV management. Diclofenac sodium (DS) is a widely used nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug. Although its high doses are known to cause toxic effects in many tissues including liver and kidney, the effects on the cardiovascular system (CVS) have not been fully elucidated yet. Therefore, this study aimed to investigate the effect of DS on CVS. The Control group did not receive medication; however, a single dose of 240mg/kg DS was administered orally to the DS group. Electrocardiography (ECG) measurements were performed in all animals before (0thhour) and after (1st,6th,12th,24thhour) intoxication. After 24h, All animals were sacrificed. Biochemical (malondialdehyde [MDA], and glutathione (GSH), Apelin, Elabela, Meteorin, Endoglin, Keap1, and Nrf2) and histopathological analyzes were performed on heart tissue samples. ECG results showed that there was a statistically significant increase in QTc, QRS, and heart rate at the 12th and 24th hours in the DS group. The biochemical analysis showed that GSH, Apelin, Keap1, and NRF2 values decreased significantly while Meteorin and Endoglin levels increased in the DS group. When histopathological results were evaluated, distinct lesions were observed in the DS group. In conclusion, high doses of DS intake can cause adverse effects on and damage to CVS. Research suggests that a mindfulness-based intervention may be an effective strategy to address mental health conditions among college students. This study was done to examine the efficacy of an adapted mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (****) program that was implemented in a classroom setting in the Philippines and to explore how mindfulness practice can affect empathy and self-compassion on senior Filipino college students aged 19-22 years old. Two classes were used to compare the effects of mindfulness intervention. One class underwent the adapted **** program while the other class underwent the same kind of class without mindfulness interventions. Self-report measures of the Five Facet Mindfulness Questionnaire, Perspective Taking subscale and Empathic Concern subscale of Interpersonal Reactivity Index, and Self-compassion scale-short form were administered before undergoing the adapted **** and after the program. After going through the adapted ****, college students' mindfulness significantly improved. Empathy and self-compassion also significantly improved after undergoing the program. The influence of the distance to the binding zones on the intensity of coloration and limit of detection (LOD) was rather different. Basing on the data obtained, the best order of binding zones was chosen. In comparison with non-optimal location the LODs were 5-10 fold improved. The final assay provides LODs 0.4, 0.4 and 1.0 ng/mL for lincomycin, chloramphenicol, and tetracycline, respectively. The proposed approach can be applied for multiplexed assays of other analytes.Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) can often bind target molecules with high selectivity and specificity. When used as MIPs, conductive polymers may have unique binding capabilities; they often contain aromatic rings and functional groups, which can undergo π-π and hydrogen bonding interactions with similarly structured target (or template) molecules. In this work, an electrochemical method was used to optimize the synthetic self-assembly of poly(aniline-co-metanilic acid) and testosterone, forming testosterone-imprinted electronically conductive polymers (TIECPs) on sensing electrodes. The linear sensing range for testosterone was from 0.1 to 100 pg/mL, and the limit of detection was as low as ~pM. Random urine samples were collected and diluted 1000-fold to measure testosterone concentration using the above TIECP sensors; results were compared with a commercial ARCHITECT ci 8200 system. The testosterone concentrations in the tested samples were in the range of 0.33 ± 0.09 to 9.13 ± 1.33 ng/mL. The mean accuracy of the TIECP-coated sensors was 90.3 ± 7.0%.Informal e-waste recycling is associated with several health hazards. Thus far, the main focus of research in the e-waste sector has been to assess the exposure site, such as the burden of heavy metals or organic pollutants. The aim of this study was to comprehensively assess the health consequences associated with informal e-waste recycling. A questionnaire-based assessment regarding occupational information, medical history, and current symptoms and complaints was carried out with a group of n = 84 e-waste workers and compared to a control cohort of n = 94 bystanders at the e-waste recycling site Agbogbloshie. E-waste workers suffered significantly more from work-related injuries, **** pain, and red itchy eyes in comparison to the control group. In addition, regular drug use was more common in e-waste workers (25% vs. 6.4%). Both groups showed a noticeable high use of pain killers (all workers 79%). The higher frequency of symptoms in the e-waste group can be explained by the specific recycling tasks, such as burning or dismantling.
