  • The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a complex and heterogeneous environment composed of cancer cells, tumor stroma, a mixture of tissue-resident and infiltrating immune cells, secreted factors, and extracellular matrix proteins. Natural killer (NK) cells play a vital role in fighting tumors, but chronic stimulation and immunosuppression in the TME lead to NK cell exhaustion and limited antitumor functions. Myeloid-derived suppressor cells (MDSCs) are a heterogeneous group of myeloid cells with potent immunosuppressive activity that gradually accumulate in tumor tissues. MDSCs interact with innate and adaptive immune cells and play a crucial role in negatively regulating the immune response to tumors. This review discusses MDSC-mediated NK cell regulation within the TME, focusing on critical cellular and molecular interactions. We review current strategies that target MDSC-mediated immunosuppression to enhance NK cell cytotoxic antitumor activity. We also speculate on how NK cell-based antitumor immunotherapy could be improved.
    World Health Organization (WHO) grade IV glioma remains one of the most lethal tumors with a dismal prognosis and inevitable recurrence. We evaluated the safety and efficacy of immunotherapy with radiotherapy in this population of patients.

    This study was a single-arm, open-label, phase I trial based on patients with recurrent WHO grade IV glioma. Patients were treated with intracranial and systemic immunoadjuvants in combination with low-dose reirradiation. The primary endpoint of the present trial was safety. Secondary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival (PFS). This trial is registered at ClinicalTrials.gov, NCT03392545.

    Thirty patients were enrolled. The most common adverse events (AEs) were fever (66.7%), vomiting (33.3%), headache (30.0%), and fatigue (23.3%). Only a single patient experienced grade 3 fever, and no grade 4 AEs or deaths related to treatment were observed. Of the 30 patients, 1 (3.3%) had a complete response, 5 (16.7%) had a partial response, 9 (30.0%) had stable disease, and 15 (50.0%) had progressive disease, resulting in an objective response rate of 20.0%. The median PFS of the entire cohort was 88.0 (61.0-254.0) days, and the median OS was 362.0 (197.0-601.0) days. Patients could be divided into responders and non-responders, and these groups exhibited a significant difference in terms of survival time, T lymphocyte subsets, frequency of cell division cycle 27 (CDC27) mutation status, and CD15 and CD68 expression (

The body weight and colon length of **** were measured. Our results showed that oral administration of TFGU significantly attenuated the loss of body weight and the shortening of colon length induced by CPT-11. The detailed mechanisms of clinical/therapeutic action have been demonstrated with these different types of BsAbs. Three kinds of BsAbs have received market approval, and more than 110 types of BsAbs are at various stages of clinical trials. In this paper, we elaborate on the classic platforms, mechanisms, and applications of BsAbs. The CAR-T-allo-HSCT group had more patients in second CR compared to the chemotherapy-allo-HSCT group (78% vs. 37%; p less then 0.01) and more with complex cytogenetics (44% vs. 6%; p less then 0.001) but the proportion of patients with pre-transplant minimal residual disease (MRD) was similar.     Women living with HIV (WLWH) often report heavy alcohol use and may experience substantial alcohol-related problems, but it is unclear whether it is necessary to completely quit drinking to reduce such problems.

    To assess whether complete reduction of alcohol use produced significantly greater improvement in alcohol-related problems than a partial reduction of alcohol use (reducing alcohol use to ≤7 or ≤14 drinks per week).

    We used data from a randomized clinical trial examining the effectiveness of Naltrexone in WLWH who reported heavy drinking (>7 drinks/week) at baseline. The primary outcome (alcohol-related problems) was measured using the Short Inventory of Problems. The primary predictor (drinking status quit drinking, reduced drinking, continue heavy drinking) was measured using a 30-day timeline followback.

    The sample consisted of 163 WLWH (50% 50 years or older, 85% Black). WLWH who reported past violence had significantly greater mean SIP scores at baseline (19.9 vs. 10.5,
    <.0001). Forty-eight percent of women quit drinking by 7 months and 28% reduced drinking to ≤7 drinks/week; these women had significant reduction in alcohol-related problems compared to those who continued heavy drinking (-8.2 and -4.8 vs. -0.8,
     = 0.0003). Quitting and reducing drinking were also associated with statistically significant decreases among the physical, interpersonal, intrapersonal, and social subscales of the SIP (

Similarly, those with gay friends demonstrated weaker implicit preference for "straight" over gay. The size of these relationships were considerably smaller than found for explicit evaluations. It exhibited potent cytotoxic activity against the tested cell lines with IC50 values in the low micromolar range when compared to a standard drug, docetaxel. We aimed to investigate the role of peripheral blood NK cells in TAK pathogenesis. METHODS The study consisted of 47 TAK patients and 27 healthy controls. Peripheral blood natural killer (NK) cells and their CD56Dim/CD56Bright subsets were phenotyped using CD3 and CD56 surface markers. Functional potential was assessed by production of granzyme B, perforin and interferon (IFN)-γ. RESULTS TAK patients had decreased numbers of NK cells in the peripheral blood (p less then 0.001) relative to healthy controls. The percentages of CD56Bright (p less then 0.05) and CD56Dim NK cells (p less then 0.001) from TAK patients were also decreased. The expressions of Granzyme B (p less then 0.001), Perforin (p less then 0.001) in NK cells were lower in TAK patients to compared control group, but no differences in the percentage of IFN-γ producing cells was observed between TAK patients and healthy control. There is no difference in the percentage of NK cells or CD56Bright or CD56Dim NK cells between active and inactive TAK. A functional variant of this gene has been identified to play a protective role in multiple autoimmune diseases. The goal of this study was to evaluate the involvement of this variant of TYK2 in vasculitides [giant cell arteritis (GCA), ANCA-associated vasculitis (AAV) and IgA vasculitis (IgAV)] and viral infections [hepatitis C virus (HCV) and human immunodeficiency virus type I (HIV-1)]. METHODS The study sample was composed of 13,745 European individuals. The genotyping was performed by Immunochip and TaqMan 5' allele discrimination assays and the allele frequencies were compared using PLINK. RESULTS Although the results obtained did not reach the genome-wide level of significance, p-values at nominal significance were observed, suggesting that the TYK2 variant provides protection against two vasculitides GCA (p=5.94E-3; OR (95%CI) = 0.56 (0.37-0.85) and AAV (p=6.79E-3; OR (95%CI) = 0.65 (0.47-0.89). However, this variant was not found to be associated with IgAV. No evidence was gained that the TYK2 variant confers susceptibility to HCV and HIV-1 infection. CONCLUSIONS This is the first study to propose the association between the TYK2 and both GCA and AAV. METHODS A retrospective analysis from the Toronto Vasculitis Clinic was conducted. Patients with relapsing or refractory EGPA with similar entry criteria as the main mepolizumab (MIRRA) or rituximab (case-series) studies, who were started on conventional immunosuppressants, were assessed for remission at 24- and 52-weeks. Remission was defined as a Birmingham Vasculitis Activity Score of 0 and a prednisone dose of ≤4mg/day, ≤7.5mg/day, corresponding to the mepolizumab trial, or any prednisone dose per day, as in the rituximab study. RESULTS Among 110 cohort patients, 24 with relapsing or refractory EGPA met eligibility criteria. Conventional immunosuppressants used were methotrexate (n=15), azathioprine (n=8) or leflunomide (n=1). Based on this observation, we hypothesized that we can use serum 17-OHP as a serum biomarker for evaluating ITT in men receiving medications that alter serum testosterone. METHODS Initially, we conducted a cross-sectional analysis of men with a single serum 17-OHP evaluation from July 2018 to March 2019. We followed this with a prospective analysis from July 2018 to October 2019 with evaluation of 140 men including fertile controls, and those receiving treatments that alter serum testosterone at baseline and after 3 months of therapy. According to the data distribution, we reported the median and interquartile ranges and utilized the Mann Whitney U or Wilcoxon tests. RESULTS In the initial cross-sectional analysis of 93 men, a total of 30 men received treatments that increase or maintain ITT concentrations, such as clomiphene citrate (CC) and/or hCG; 21 men received treatments that suppress ITT concentrations (various exogenous testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) formulations); and 42 fertile men with normal serum testosterone (>300 ng/dL) were used as control.

Here, we investigated six transmembrane (TM) proteins that show elevated gene expression during biotrophic development of the maize pathogen Ustilago maydis. We show that two of the six proteins, named Vmp1 and Vmp2 (virulence-associated membrane protein), are essential for the full virulence of U. maydis. The deletion of the corresponding genes leads to a substantial attenuation in the virulence of U. maydis. Furthermore, both are conserved in various related smuts and contain no domains of known function. Our biochemical analysis clearly shows that Vmp1 and Vmp2 are membrane-associated proteins, potentially localizing to the U. maydis plasma membrane. We re-sequenced 12 RNA samples from developing seeds of two cultivated peanut accessions (Lines 8106 and 8107) and wild Arachis monticola at 15, 30, 45, and 60 days past flowering (DPF). Transcriptome analyses showed that ∼36,000 gene loci were expressed in each of the 12 RNA samples, with nearly half exhibiting moderate (2 ≤ FPKM less then 10) expression levels.     Heart failure is a syndrome with increasing prevalence in concordance with the aging population and better survival rates from myocardial infarction. Morbidity and mortality are high in chronic heart failure patients, particularly in those with hospital admission for acute decompensation. Several risk stratification tools and score systems have been established to predict mortality in chronic heart failure patients. However, identification of patients at risk with easy obtainable clinical factors that can predict mortality in acute decompensated heart failure (ADHF) are needed to optimize the care-path.

    We retrospectively analyzed electronic medical records of 78 patients with HFrEF and HFmrEF who were hospitalized with ADHF in the Heart Center of the University Hospital Cologne in the year 2011 and discharged from the ward after successful treatment. 37.6 ± 16.4months after index hospitalization 30 (38.5%) patients had died.     Myasthenia gravis (MG) is a rare autoimmune disease mainly mediated by autoantibodies against the acetylcholine receptor (AChR) at the neuromuscular junction. The thymus is the effector organ, and its removal alleviates the symptoms of the disease. In the early-onset form of MG, the thymus displays functional and morphological abnormalities such as B cell infiltration leading to follicular hyperplasia, and the production of AChR antibodies. Type-I interferon (IFN-I), especially IFN-β, is the orchestrator of thymic changes observed in MG. As Dicer and miR-29 subtypes play a role in modulating the IFN-I signalization in mouse thymus, we investigated their expression in MG thymus.

    The expression of DICER and miR-29 subtypes were thoroughly investigated by RT-PCR in human control and MG thymuses, and in thymic epithelial cells (TECs).     The diagnostic accuracy of histopathological detection of transthyretin amyloid (ATTR) by Congo red staining of abdominal fat samples has been questioned since low sensitivity has been reported, especially for patients with ATTR cardiomyopathy. However, the outcome of surgically obtained fat pad biopsies has not yet been evaluated. The aim was to evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of skin punch biopsies from abdominal fat in patients with suspected ATTR amyloidosis.

    Data were evaluated from patients who had undergone abdominal fat pad biopsies using a skin punch due to suspected amyloidosis from 2006 to 2015. The biopsies had been analysed using Congo red staining to determine the presence of amyloid, and immunohistochemistry or Western blot to determine the type of amyloidosis. The final diagnosis was based on the clinical picture, biopsy results and DNA sequencing. Minimum follow-up after the initial biopsy was 3years.

Psychological distress was assessed using the Kessler Psychological Distress Scale (K10); level of fear was assessed using the Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S); and coping strategies were assessed using the Brief Resilient Coping Scale (****). Logistic regression was used to identify factors associated with the extent of psychological distress, level of fear and coping strategies while adjusting for potential confounders.

Patients with breast, lung, colon or ovarian cancer, with early, locally advanced or metastatic disease and receiving chemotherapy were included. Primary endpoint was documented symptomatic VTE; Results A total of 1355 patients were enrolled between November 2013 and November 2015. Of those, 194 patients were excluded because of missing data or the use of anticoagulation. Of the evaluable patients, 361 patients received radiotherapy (33.6%) At a median follow up of 6 months, 9.1% (n = 33) of patients receiving radiotherapy developed a VTE event (excluding those with missing data on follow up). After applying the competing risk model, radiotherapy remained significantly associated with increased risk for VTE (HR 2.47, 95% CI 1.47-4.12,

Stratification analysis for the cohort that received radiotherapy revealed an increased risk of VTE in evaluable patients, 361 patients received radiotherapy (33.6%) At a median follow up of 6 months, 9.1% (n = 33) of patients receiving radiotherapy developed a VTE event (excluding those with missing data on follow up). West Virginia University (WVU) established a High-Risk Pain Clinic to use sublingual buprenorphine/naloxone (bup/nal) plus a multimodal approach to help chronic pain patients with history of Substance Use Disorder (SUD) or aberrant drug-related behavior. The objective of this study was to report overall retention rates and indicators of efficacy in pain control from approximately six years of High-Risk Pain Clinic data. A retrospective chart review was conducted for a total of 78 patients who enrolled in the High-Risk Pain Clinic between 2014 and 2020. Data gathered include psychiatric diagnoses, prescribed medications, pain score, buprenorphine/naloxone dosing, time in clinic, and reason for dismissal. A linear mixed effects model was used to assess the pain score from the Defense and Veterans Pain Rating Scale (DVPRS) and daily bup/nal dose across time. The overall retention of the High-Risk Pain Clinic was 41%. The mean pain score demonstrated a significant downward trend across treatment time (p less then 0.001), while the opposite trend was seen with buprenorphine dose (p less then 0.001). With the benefit of six years of observation, this study supports buprenorphine/naloxone as a safe and efficacious component of comprehensive chronic pain treatment in patients with SUD or high-risk of opioid overuse or misuse.
    A major disadvantage of current spacers for two-stage revision total knee arthroplasty (R-TKA) is the risk of (sub-) luxation during mobilization in the prosthesis-free interval, limiting their clinical success with detrimental consequences for the patient. The present study introduces a novel inverse spacer, which prevents major complications, such as spacer (sub-) luxations and/or fractures of spacer or bone.

    The hand-made inverse spacer consisted of convex tibial and concave femoral components of polymethylmethacrylate bone cement and was intra-operatively molded under maximum longitudinal tension in 5° flexion and 5° valgus position. Both components were equipped with a stem for rotational stability. This spacer was implanted during an R-TKA in 110 knees with diagnosed or suspected periprosthetic infection. Postoperative therapy included a straight leg brace and physiotherapist-guided, crutch-supported mobilization with full sole contact. X-rays were taken before and after prosthesis removal and re-imcations. Overall, compared to patients with a normal BMI, overweight and obese patients had a greater risk of minimal extrathyroidal extension (minimal ETE), multifocality and bilaterality of PTC (p less then 0.001 for all). Analysis did not show that BMI was significantly associated with the more advanced tumor-node-metastasis (TNM) stage (p = 0.894). Obesity and overweight were significantly associated with higher aggressiveness of PTC. When considering various management options for PTC patients, these findings regarding overweight and obesity should be taken into consideration during the decision-making process.

Two diffusion coefficients of ferric ion complexes with XO ([XO-Fe]+3) were calculated. They were compared with those for similar dosimeter, however with gelatine matrix instead of Pluronic F-127. The results obtained indicate an impact of the gravitational force on the diffusion of [XO-Fe]+3ions over time after irradiation and thus a possibility of severely undermining the integrity of a dose distribution in irradiated dosimeter. We show how the rotation of the excitation polarization can be used to control and switch between Fabry-Perot and whispering gallery modes in tapered GaN microwire resonators. We demonstrate the enhancement of two-photon luminescence in the yellow-green spectral range due to efficient coupling between whispering gallery, FPM, and excitonic states in GaN. This luminescence enhancement allows us to conveniently visualize whispering gallery modes excited with a NIR source.

    Percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP) is a highly practical technology to treat osteoporotic vertebral compression fractures (OVCFs). However, the operation time and radiation exposure remain problematic. This study explored the differences in surgical effects and safety between a novel steerable percutaneous kyphoplasty (S-PKP) and traditional PKP in order to achieve better clinical outcomes for OVCF patients. It is also exploring whether the new technology could reduce the radiation exposure.

    This study recruited 72 patients (between March 2019 and January 2020) with OVCFs (single vertebra). The patients were semi-randomly divided these patients into two groups according to ID numbers a S-PKP group (33 cases) and a PKP group (39 cases). We evaluated the clinical efficacy using the kyphotic Cobb angle, Oswestry disability index (ODI), visual analogue scale (VAS) score, injected cement volume, operation time, intraoperative radiation times, bone cement leakage, and postoperative complications. Patients were follin the S-PKP group.

    Early results showed that S-PKP is a safe and efficient method for the treatment of OVCFs. S-PKP can reduce the operation time and radiation exposure.

    Glioblastoma is the most common and aggressive primary tumor in the central nervous system (CNS). Patients with glioblastomas have poor prognosis due to its aggressive clinical behavior and resistance to the chemotherapeutic agent temozolomide (TMZ). Aberrant long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are involved in glioma progression and its regulatory mechanisms. Analysis of sequencing data identified a new lncRNA, named lncRNA TCONS_00004099, which could derive a new microRNA and was highly expressed in glioma.

    To elucidate the role of lncRNA TCONS_00004099 in gliomas, Quantitative Real-time PCR (qPCR) was used to assess the differential expression of lncRNA TCONS_00004099 and its related miRNA in glioma tissues, normal brain tissues, glioma cell lines (U87 and U251 cells), and a normal human embryonic brain cell line (HEB). Cell Counting Kit-8 (CCK8) assays to assess cell proliferation, flow cytometry assays examining apoptosis and the cell cycle, colony formation assays, wound healing assay, transwell assays, adiated through miRNA TCONS_00004099 and its target PTPRF. Thus, the lncRNA TCONS_00004099/miRNA/PTPRF axis may be a potential therapeutic target for gliomas.
    These results demonstrated that lncRNA TCONS_00004099 promoted malignant behaviors in gliomas, including proliferation, metastasis, and anti-apoptosis.     The miRNA-Seq data and clinical information of glioma patients were downloaded from the TCGA (510 cases) and GEO (GSE112009, 25 cases) database. LASSO & COX regression was used to develop a miRNA-based model for predicting patient survival in the training set (n=255), to carry out glioma prognostic related miRNAs screening, and to construct a linear risk model based on the expression profiles of seven miRNAs. COX regression analysis was used to determine whether the miRNAs risk model was an independent prognostic factor.

    Seven survival-related miRNAs (miR-140-5p, miR-145-5p, miR-148a-3p, miR-183-5p, miR-222-3p, miR-223-3p, and miR-374a-5p) were identified in the training set. This showed that the overall survival time of the high-risk group was significantly lower than that of the low-risk group in the training set, prediction set, and validation set (P<0.05). Further analysis revealed that age and Karnofsky score both affected the risk of glioma. By crossing seven potential target genes of microRNAs, 620 effective target genes were obtained and GO analysis showed that these were related to the positive regulation of cell migration, neuron migration, and the response of transforming growth factor, and KEGG analysis showed they were related to the TGF-beta signaling pathway, MAPK signaling, and AGE-RAGE signaling pathway in diabetic complications.

This study explored the differences in surgical effects and safety between a novel steerable percutaneous kyphoplasty (S-PKP) and traditional PKP in order to achieve better clinical outcomes for OVCF patients. It is also exploring whether the new technology could reduce the radiation exposure. This study recruited 72 patients (between March 2019 and January 2020) with OVCFs (single vertebra). Aggregating these elements and analyzing the content, design and purpose of a digital CA revealed 20 relevant data model requirements. OBJECTIVE  The main purpose of this article is to evaluate the impact of changes made to an electronic critical care admission order set on provider prescribing patterns and clinical outcomes. METHODS  A retrospective, observational before-and-after exploratory study was performed on adult patients admitted to the medical intensive care unit using the Inpatient Critical Care Admission Order Set. The primary outcome measure was the percentage change in the number of orders for scheduled acetaminophen, a histamine-2 receptor antagonist (H2RA), and lactated ringers at admission before implementation of the revised order set compared with after implementation. Secondary outcomes assessed clinical impact of changes made to the order set. RESULTS  The addition of a different dosing strategy for a medication already available on the order set (scheduled acetaminophen vs. as needed acetaminophen) had no impact on physician prescribing (0 vs. 0%, p = 1.000). The addition of a new medication class (an H2RA) to the order set significantly increased the number of patients prescribed an H2RA for stress ulcer prophylaxis (0 vs. 20%, p  less then  0.001). Rearranging the list of maintenance intravenous fluids to make lactated ringers the first fluid option in place of normal saline significantly decreased the number of orders for lactated ringers (17 vs. 4%, p = 0.005). The order set changes had no significant impact on clinical outcomes such as incidence of transaminitis, gastrointestinal bleed, and acute kidney injury. CONCLUSION  Making changes to an admission order set can impact provider prescribing patterns. The type of change made to the order set, in addition to the specific medication changed, may have an effect on how influential the changes are on prescribing patterns. METHODS A randomized crossover study was performed in patients referred for EUS-guided sampling. Three passes were taken with each needle in a randomized order. Only samples reported as diagnostic of malignancy were considered positive. The primary end point was the sensitivity of diagnosis of malignancy. Secondary end points included the amount of sample obtained, ease of diagnosis, duration of tissue sampling, pathologist viewing time, and cost. RESULTS 108 patients were recruited. Median age was 69 years (range 30 - 87) and 57 were male; 85.2 % had a final diagnosis of malignancy. There were statistically significant differences in sensitivity (82 % [95 % confidence interval (CI) 72 % to 89 %] vs. 71 % [95 %CI 60 % to 80 %]), accuracy (84 % [95 %CI 76 % to 91 %] vs. 75 % [95 %CI 66 % to 83 %]), proportion graded as a straightforward diagnosis (69 % [95 %CI 60 % to 78 %] vs. 51 % [95 %CI 41 % to 61 %]), and median pathology viewing time (188 vs. 332 seconds) (P  less then  0.001) between FNB and FNA needles, respectively. There was no significant difference in cost between an FNB or FNA strategy. CONCLUSION The diagnostic performance of the fork-tip FNB needle was significantly better than that of FNA; it was associated with ease of diagnosis, shorter pathological viewing times, and was cost neutral. This study aimed to develop a nomogram to predict the status of lymph node metastasis with the aim of avoiding unnecessary gastrectomies. METHODS  We reviewed the clinicopathological data of 10 579 patients who underwent curative resection for EGC. The nomogram was developed by multivariate analysis and was evaluated by external validation. Overall, disease-free and recurrence-free survival were compared between the gastrectomy group of 6641 patients and the endoscopic dissection group of 999 patients to show the efficacy of the nomogram. RESULTS  Multivariate analyses revealed that age, tumor size, lymphatic invasion, depth of invasion, and histologic differentiation were all significant prognostic factors for lymph node metastasis. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/xct-790.html The nomogram had good discriminatory performance, with a concordance index of 0.846. This was supported by the external validation point of 0.813.   • The microalgae treatment system is an economically and environmentally friendly option for wastewater treatment. However, the effects of heavy metal toxicity on microalgae cells can limit the use of microalgae in the treatment of industrial effluents rich in heavy metals. In this work, we studied the effect of Ni, Cu, Al, Hg and Pb, added as single-metal solutions to the microalgae culture medium, on the growth of 20 indigenous strains belonging to a wide variety of microalgae genera. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/disodium-Cromoglycate.html Ni and Cu were the most toxic to the strains tested. A highly tolerant strain of the Phacus genera was selected. We determined the effect of multiple combinations of Ni, Al and Pb on the cell growth of the selected strain and on the removal capacity of each metal from the microalgae culture medium. Phacus was able to grow in the multi-metal solution (Ni, 5.00 mg/L; Al, 9.94 mg/L and Pb 1.00 mg/L) and to efficiently remove the metals, with removal capacities of 8.82 ±0.16 mg/g for Ni, 2.09 ± 0.05 mg/g for Pb and 16.90 ± 0.53 mg/g for Al. The reductions of Ni, Al and Pb concentrations were 66.67, 64.28 and 79.17% respectively.Qualitative and quantitative analysis of trace organics in the condensate and its correlation with chemical oxygen demand (COD) is the key to the research on the reuse technology of condensate (condensate) from natural gas to hydrogen production process. The contents of anions, COD, total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) were measured by ion chromatography and the TOC analyzer. Trace organics in the condensate and its correlation with COD was investigated in this paper. Results show that the contents of COD and TOC is 74.1 and 17.81 mg/L, respectively, and the anions in the condensate are mainly Cl-, I-, and SO42-, etc. The condensate mainly contains small molecule organics including methanol, ethanol and formic acid with the content of 41.4, 2.1 and 3.2 mg/L, respectively. The spiked recovery of methanol, ethanol and formic acid is 96.1%, 100.2% and 103.9% by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC), respectively. Methanol is the main source of COD in the condensate, and the contribution rate reaches up to 83.8%. The removal of trace methanol can significantly reduce the COD of the condensate. This work might provide basic data for reasonable recovery and utilization of condensate in the hydrogen production process.A high-surface-area and inexpensive activated carbon has been produced from lemon peel using chemical activation with H3PO4 at 500 °C in a N2 atmosphere. Afterwards, the synthesized cobalt nanoparticles using coprecipitation method were adsorbed on the activated carbon surface, and as a result magnetic activated carbon was obtained. Sample characterization has been assessed via X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption and magnetic properties. It was found that magnetic activated carbon-cobalt nanoparticles (****Co) synthesized had a high saturation magnetization. The ****Co revealed super-paramagnetic behaviors at room temperature, and have been readily isolated from solution by using an exterior magnet. Next, adsorption behavior of malachite green and Pb(II) onto the generated ****Co has been examined. Sorption kinetics and equilibrium have been studied using batch procedure. The kinetic and isothermal adsorption results were matched completely with the Elovich and Langmuir models, respectively. Based on the Langmuir model, the highest adsorption capacities of malachite green dye and Pb(II) ion respectively were 263.2 and 312.5 mg g-1 at room temperature. Based on the results, the ****Co is a probable economic and effective adsorbent that can be employed as a new adsorbent to remove malachite green dye and Pb(II) from wastewater.Since it is difficult to analyze the components of organic matter in complex effluent matrices individually, the use of more collective, but at the same time, specific wastewater characterization methods would be more appropriate to evaluate changes in effluent characteristics during wastewater treatment. For this purpose, size distribution and structural (resin) fractionation tools have recently been proposed to categorize wastewater. There are several case studies available in the scientific literature being devoted to the application of these fractionation methods. This paper aimed to review the most relevant studies dealing with the evaluation of changes in wastewater characteristics using size distribution and structural (resin) fractionation tools. According to these studies, sequential filtration-ultrafiltration procedures, as well as XAD resins, are frequently employed for size and structural fractionations, respectively. This review focuses on the most relevant publications including biological treatment processes, as well as chemical treatment methods such as coagulation-flocculation, electrocoagulation, the Fenton's reagent and ozonation. This study aims at providing an insight into the possible treatment mechanisms and details the understanding what structural features of wastewater components enabled or prevented efficient treatment (removal) or targeted pollutants.This report aimed to identity the potential anti-meningitis targets and mechanisms functioned by calycosin through network pharmacology approach. The bioinformatics databases were used to screen and collect the candidate genes/targets of calycosin and meningitis prior to identification of vital biotargets of calycosin-anti-meningitis. Additionally, the functional processes, signaling pathways of calycosin-anti-meningitis were screened and identified before further data visualization. As a result, all candidate and mapped biotargets of calycosin and meningitis were harvested before the vital targets of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), ataxia telangiectasia mutated protein (ATM), estrogen receptor alpha (ESR1), caspase-8 (CASP8), nerve growth factor (NGF) of calycosin-anti-meningitis were identified. The molecular processes of calycosin-anti-meningitis were screened and identified, including reduction of inflammatory development. Furthermore, the molecular pathways of calycosin-anti-meningitis were revealed, including suppression of NF-kappa B, Toll-like receptor, TNF signaling pathways.

However, the effects of heavy metal toxicity on microalgae cells can limit the use of microalgae in the treatment of industrial effluents rich in heavy metals. In this work, we studied the effect of Ni, Cu, Al, Hg and Pb, added as single-metal solutions to the microalgae culture medium, on the growth of 20 indigenous strains belonging to a wide variety of microalgae genera. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/disodium-Cromoglycate.html Ni and Cu were the most toxic to the strains tested. A highly tolerant strain of the Phacus genera was selected. We determined the effect of multiple combinations of Ni, Al and Pb on the cell growth of the selected strain and on the removal capacity of each metal from the microalgae culture medium. Phacus was able to grow in the multi-metal solution (Ni, 5.00 mg/L; Al, 9.94 mg/L and Pb 1.00 mg/L) and to efficiently remove the metals, with removal capacities of 8.82 ±0.16 mg/g for Ni, 2.09 ± 0.05 mg/g for Pb and 16.90 ± 0.53 mg/g for Al. The reductions of Ni, Al and Pb concentrations were 66.67, 64.28 and 79.17% respectively.Qualitative and quantitative analysis of trace organics in the condensate and its correlation with chemical oxygen demand (COD) is the key to the research on the reuse technology of condensate (condensate) from natural gas to hydrogen production process. The contents of anions, COD, total organic carbon (TOC) and total nitrogen (TN) were measured by ion chromatography and the TOC analyzer. Trace organics in the condensate and its correlation with COD was investigated in this paper. Results show that the contents of COD and TOC is 74.1 and 17.81 mg/L, respectively, and the anions in the condensate are mainly Cl-, I-, and SO42-, etc. The condensate mainly contains small molecule organics including methanol, ethanol and formic acid with the content of 41.4, 2.1 and 3.2 mg/L, respectively. The spiked recovery of methanol, ethanol and formic acid is 96.1%, 100.2% and 103.9% by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and gas chromatography (GC), respectively. Methanol is the main source of COD in the condensate, and the contribution rate reaches up to 83.8%. The removal of trace methanol can significantly reduce the COD of the condensate. This work might provide basic data for reasonable recovery and utilization of condensate in the hydrogen production process.A high-surface-area and inexpensive activated carbon has been produced from lemon peel using chemical activation with H3PO4 at 500 °C in a N2 atmosphere. Afterwards, the synthesized cobalt nanoparticles using coprecipitation method were adsorbed on the activated carbon surface, and as a result magnetic activated carbon was obtained. Sample characterization has been assessed via X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, nitrogen adsorption-desorption and magnetic properties. It was found that magnetic activated carbon-cobalt nanoparticles (MAC/Co) synthesized had a high saturation magnetization. The MAC/Co revealed super-paramagnetic behaviors at room temperature, and have been readily isolated from solution by using an exterior magnet. Next, adsorption behavior of malachite green and Pb(II) onto the generated MAC/Co has been examined. Sorption kinetics and equilibrium have been studied using batch procedure. The kinetic and isothermal adsorption results were matched completely with the Elovich and Langmuir models, respectively. Based on the Langmuir model, the highest adsorption capacities of malachite green dye and Pb(II) ion respectively were 263.2 and 312.5 mg g-1 at room temperature. Based on the results, the MAC/Co is a probable economic and effective adsorbent that can be employed as a new adsorbent to remove malachite green dye and Pb(II) from wastewater.Since it is difficult to analyze the components of organic matter in complex effluent matrices individually, the use of more collective, but at the same time, specific wastewater characterization methods would be more appropriate to evaluate changes in effluent characteristics during wastewater treatment. For this purpose, size distribution and structural (resin) fractionation tools have recently been proposed to categorize wastewater. There are several case studies available in the scientific literature being devoted to the application of these fractionation methods. This paper aimed to review the most relevant studies dealing with the evaluation of changes in wastewater characteristics using size distribution and structural (resin) fractionation tools. According to these studies, sequential filtration-ultrafiltration procedures, as well as XAD resins, are frequently employed for size and structural fractionations, respectively. This review focuses on the most relevant publications including biological treatment processes, as well as chemical treatment methods such as coagulation-flocculation, electrocoagulation, the Fenton's reagent and ozonation. This study aims at providing an insight into the possible treatment mechanisms and details the understanding what structural features of wastewater components enabled or prevented efficient treatment (removal) or targeted pollutants.This report aimed to identity the potential anti-meningitis targets and mechanisms functioned by calycosin through network pharmacology approach. The bioinformatics databases were used to screen and collect the candidate genes/targets of calycosin and meningitis prior to identification of vital biotargets of calycosin-anti-meningitis. Additionally, the functional processes, signaling pathways of calycosin-anti-meningitis were screened and identified before further data visualization. As a result, all candidate and mapped biotargets of calycosin and meningitis were harvested before the vital targets of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR), tumor necrosis factor (TNF), epidermal growth factor (EGF), ataxia telangiectasia mutated protein (ATM), estrogen receptor alpha (ESR1), caspase-8 (CASP8), nerve growth factor (NGF) of calycosin-anti-meningitis were identified. The molecular processes of calycosin-anti-meningitis were screened and identified, including reduction of inflammatory development. Furthermore, the molecular pathways of calycosin-anti-meningitis were revealed, including suppression of NF-kappa B, Toll-like receptor, TNF signaling pathways.
