Toxicity evaluation was performed for each individual compound using Daphnia magna as test organism and it was found that the effect concentration (EC50) decreased with increasing octanol-water partition coefficients. The EC50 values calculated and Measured Environmental Concentrations were used to determine the risk quotients. Only diethylhexylphthalate, nonylphenol and octylphenol, with median concentrations from 41.9 to 826 ng/L, caused a small risk mostly in downstream waters with 50-75% of the samples overpassing the Environmental Quality Standards set by the European Union. Seasonal variations were observed with higher levels in summer due to low water flows. MtDNAcn from cord blood was measured by quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qPCR). We applied multiple informant models based on generalized estimating equations to assess the associations between prenatal BPS exposure and mtDNAcn. The median urine concentrations of BPS were 0.32 μg/L, 0.34 μg/L, and 0.36 μg/L in the first, second, and third trimesters, respectively. In the multiple informant models, we observed significant associations between BPS and mtDNAcn among male newborns. Compared with the lowest quarters, the second, third, and the highest quarter of BPS level were associated with 58.00% (95% CI 76.58%, -24.66%), 64.65% (95% CI 79.40%, -39.33%) and 59.07% (95% CI 75.16%, -32.58%) reductions of mtDNAcn in the first trimester, respectively. No significant associations were found in the second and third trimesters. The associations between BPS and mtDNAcn were not found among female newborns. Findings from this study suggested that BPS exposure was related to decreased mtDNAcn in male newborns. Males were exposed to 0; 0.1; 1 or 10 μg/kg/day of BaP from post-natal (PND) 23 to PND 53 (by gavage). The lowest dose of BaP was able to compromise the male copulatory behavior, as evidenced by the delay in the first mount, intromission and ejaculation. Furthermore, BaP-treated groups showed lower sperm quality (disrupted motility and morphology) and quantity, reduced relative weights of the thyroid and seminal gland. Serum testosterone levels and the Leydig cells nuclei volume were decreased by BaP exposure whereas the StAR expression was increased. Histopathological changes in the testis also were detected in the males exposed to BaP.

Accurate identification of ACPs has received considerable attention in recent years; as such, a number of machine learning-based methods for in silico identification of ACPs have been developed. These methods promote the research on the mechanism of ACPs therapeutics against cancer to some extent. There is a vast difference in these methods in terms of their training/testing datasets, machine learning algorithms, feature encoding schemes, feature selection methods and evaluation strategies used. Therefore, it is desirable to summarize the advantages and disadvantages of the existing methods, provide useful insights and suggestions for the development and improvement of novel computational tools to characterize and identispectively.Developmental pluripotency-associated 2 (Dppa2) and developmental pluripotency-associated 4 (Dppa4) as positive drivers were helpful for transcriptional regulation of zygotic genome activation (ZGA). Here, we systematically assessed the cooperative interplay of Dppa2 and Dppa4 in regulating cell pluripotency and found that simultaneous overexpression of Dppa2/4 can make induced pluripotent stem cells closer to embryonic stem cells (ESCs). Compared with other pluripotency transcription factors, Dppa2/4 can regulate majorities of signaling pathways by binding on CG-rich region of proximal promoter (0-500 bp), of which 85% and 77% signaling pathways were significantly activated by Dppa2 and Dppa4, respectively. Notably, Dppa2/4 also can dramatically trigger the decisive signaling pathways for facilitating ZGA, including Hippo, MAPK and TGF-beta signaling pathways and so on. At last, we found alkaline phosphatase, placental-like 2 (Alppl2) was completely silenced when Dppa2 and 4 single- or double-knockout in ESC, which is consistent with Dux. Moreover, Alppl2 was significantly activated in mouse 2-cell embryos and 4-8 cells stage of human embryos, further predicted that Alppl2 was directly regulated by Dppa2/4 as a ZGA candidate driver to facilitate pre-embryonic development.
    A physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling approach was used to simulate the concentration-time profile of ethanol (EtOH) in stomach, duodenum, plasma and other tissues upon consumption of beer and whiskey under fasted and fed conditions.

    A full PBPK model was developed for EtOH using the advanced dissolution, absorption and metabolism (ADAM) model fully integrated into the Simcyp Simulator® 15 (Simcyp Ltd., Sheffield, UK). The prediction performance of the developed model was verified and the EtOH concentration-time profile in different organs was predicted.

    Simcyp simulation showed ≤ 2-fold difference in values of EtOH area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) in stomach and duodenum as compared to the observed values. Moreover, the simulated EtOH maximum concentration (Cmax), time to reach Cmax (Tmax) and AUC in plasma were comparable to the observed values. We showed that liver is exposed to the highest EtOH concentration, faster than other organs (Cmax=839.50mg/L and Tmax=0.53h), while brain exposure of EtOH (AUC=1139.43mg·h/L) is the highest among all other organs. Sensitivity analyses (SAs) showed direct proportion of EtOH rate and extent of absorption with administered EtOH dose and inverse relationship with gastric emptying time (GE) and steady-state volume of distribution (Vss).

Brain disorders are often complex and heterogeneous, and several modalities such as demographic, clinical, imaging, genetics and environmental data have been studied to improve their understanding. Deep learning, a subpart of machine learning, provides complex algorithms that can learn from such various data. It has become state of the art in numerous fields, including computer vision and natural language processing, and is also growingly applied in medicine. In this article, we review the use of deep learning for brain disorders. More specifically, we identify the main applications, the concerned disorders and the types of architectures and data used. Finally, we provide guidelines to bridge the gap between research studies and clinical routine.BTP2 is an inhibitor of the Ca2+ channel Orai1, which mediates store-operated Ca2+ entry (SOCE).   • Ectopic lipid accumulation in the kidney (fatty kidney) is a potential driver of diabetic kidney disease, and tight glycemic control can reduce risk of diabetic nephropathy. We assessed whether glycemic control influences renal triglyceride content (RTGC). Furthermore, we compared glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist liraglutide versus standard glucose-lowering therapy.

    In this single-center parallel-group trial, patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were randomized to liraglutide or placebo added to standard care (metformin/sulfonylurea derivative/insulin). Changes in RTGC after 26weeks of glycemic control measured by proton spectroscopy and difference in RTGC between treatment groups were analyzed.

    Fifty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were included in the baseline analysis (mean age, 56.5±9.1years; range, 33-73years; 46% males). Seventeen patients had baseline and follow-up measurements. Mean glycated hemoglobin was 7.8±0.8%, which changed to 7.3±0.9% after 26 weeks of glycemic control irrespective of treatment group (P=.046). Log-transformed RTGC was -0.68±0.30% and changed to -0.83±0.32% after 26 weeks of glycemic control irrespective of treatment group (P=.049). We assessed whether glycemic control influences renal triglyceride content (RTGC). Furthermore, we compared glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonist liraglutide versus standard glucose-lowering therapy. In this single-center parallel-group trial, patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus were randomized to liraglutide or placebo added to standard care (metformin/sulfonylurea derivative/insulin).   • Multiple cohort studies have compared surgical resection with CT-guided percutaneous ablation for patients with stage 1 non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC); however, the results have been heterogeneous. This systematic review and meta-analysis aims to compare surgery with ablation for stage 1 NSCLC.

    A search of five databases was performed from inception to 5 July 2020. Studies were included if overall survival (OS), cancer-specific survival (CSS), and/or disease-free survival (DFS) were compared between patients treated with surgical resection versus ablation (radiofrequency ablation (RFA) or microwave ablation (MWA)) for stage 1 NSCLC. Pooled odds ratios (OR) were calculated.

    A total of eight studies were included (total 792 patients 460 resection and 332 ablation). There were no significant differences in 1- to 5-year OS or CSS between surgery versus ablation. We applied the ACR TIRADS' size thresholds for FNA to the Kwak TIRADS and defined it as the modified Kwak TIRADS (mKwak TIRADS). Diagnostic performances and unnecessary FNA rates were evaluated for both the original and modified guidelines.

    Two CT phantoms were scanned on four DECT platforms fast kV-switching CT (KVSCT), split filter CT (SFCT), dual-source CT (DSCT), and dual-layer CT (DLCT). Acquisitions on each phantom were performed using classical parameters of abdomen-pelvic examination and a CTDI
    at 10 mGy. Noise power spectrum (NPS) and task-based transfer function (TTF) were evaluated from 40 to 140 keV of virtual monoenergetic images. A detectability index (d') was computed to model the detection task of two contrast-enhanced lesions as function of keV.

    The noise magnitude decreased from 40 to 70 keV for all DECT platforms, and the highest noise magnitude values were found for KVSCT and SFCT and the lowest for DSCT and DLCT. The average NPS spatial frequency shifted towards lower frequencies as the energy level increased for all DECT platforms, smoothing the image texture. TTF values decreased with the increase of keV deteriorating the spatial resolution.

The present study introduced a triangular embankment due to its construction simplicity and low cost and compared it with a rigid wall-type barrier. At first, both models were compared in terms of the streamline and the sand mass flux with a two-phase flow of sandstorm numerical calculations. Then, the sand mass flux was measured for the rigid wall-type barrier using an experimental wind tunnel test. Moreover, the effects of wind speed, wall height, the zero-porosity barrier on the mass flux profile, and the deposition reduction of sand particles were examined after the barrier placement. Finally, the triangular embankment behavior was studied in a wind tunnel. The results revealed that the triangular embankment could increase the safe area after the barrier placement by up to 25%. The present study introduced a triangular embankment due to its construction simplicity and low cost and compared it with a rigid wall-type barrier. At first, both models were compared in terms of the streamline and the sand mass flux with a two-phase flow of sandstorm numerical calculations. Then, the sand mass flux was measured for the rigid wall-type barrier using an experimental wind tunnel test. Moreover, the effects of wind speed, wall height, the zero-porosity barrier on the mass flux profile, and the deposition reduction of sand particles were examined after the barrier placement. Finally, the triangular embankment behavior was studied in a wind tunnel. The results revealed that the triangular embankment could increase the safe area after the barrier placement by up to 25%. Second, we provide guidance to practicing geriatrics healthcare professionals overseeing the care of older adults. We provide a framework for clinical evaluation and screening related to the five aforementioned domains that uniquely impact older adults. In addition, a deficiency of these proteins has been found to cause hypolipidemia (reduction of all lipid fractions). Increases in ANGPTL3, 4 and 8 appear to be associated with cardiovascular risk. Animal studies indicate that the use of ANGPTL3 (evinacumab) inhibitors significantly reduces plasma total cholesterol, triglycerides and low-density lipoprotein concentrations. The use of evinacumab in clinical trials also led to the normalization of plasma lipid concentrations in patients with atherogenic dyslipidemia and homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia.     There is an evidence-practice gap in assessment of the upper extremities during acute and subacute stroke rehabilitation. The aim of this study was to target this gap by describing and evaluating the implementation of, and adherence to, an evidence--based clinical practice guideline for occupational therapists and physiotherapists.

    The upper extremity assessment implementation process at Sahlgrenska University Hospital comprised 5 stages mapping clinical practice, identifying evidence-based outcome measures, development of a guideline, implementation, and evaluation. A systematic theoretical framework was used to guide and facilitate the implementation process. A survey, answered by 44 clinicians (23 physiotherapists and 21 occupational therapists), was used for evaluation.

    The guideline includes 6 primary standard-ized assessments (Shoulder Abduction, Finger Extension (SAFE), 2 items of the Actions Research Arm Test (ARAT-2), Fugl-Meyer Assessment of Upper Extremity (FMA-UE), Box and Block Test (BBT), 9-Hole Peg Test (9HPT), and grip strength (Jamar hand dynamometer)) per-formed at specified time-points post-stroke.

Ultra performance liquid chromatography analysis demonstrated that after 181 days of storage total taxifolin content was the highest in samples with taxifolin and L. carnosum (60%), compared to the first day of storage. The sausages with taxifolin and the mixture of P. pentosaceus and S. xylosus (56%) followed next. Taxifolin improved the hygienic quality of sausages without significant effect on the growth of lactic acid bacteria. The produced liquid mushroom protein hydrolysate yielded 0.77-0.92% crude protein (p>0.05). Bunashimeji mushroom protein hydrolysate was the lightest in colour, while shiitake mushroom protein hydrolysate was the darkest (p0.05), with the highest yield of bunashimeji and the lowest of shiitake mushroom protein hydrolysate (p less then 0.05). Preference test of chicken soup with added different mushroom protein hydrolysates was performed using 58 untrained panellists to evaluate their taste-enhancing effect, compared to monosodium glutamate (MSG). Soup with MSG had the highest score for the tested attributes, while soups with bunashimeji and oyster mushroom protein hydrolysates showed higher aroma, taste, mouthfeel and overall preference scores than negative control, which contained neither MSG nor any of the hydrolysates (p less then 0.05). This finding suggests that bunashimeji and oyster mushroom protein hydrolysate have the potential to be used as taste enhancers in food applications.The aim of this paper is to determine nutritive, functional, microbiological and sensory properties of probiotic beverages produced from different volume ratios of ***'s milk and soy beverage (2575, 5050 and 7525). Pure ***'s milk and soy beverage served as control samples. Fermentation was performed at 43 °C by a combined culture consisting of the probiotic strain Lactobacillus acidophilus La5 and yoghurt culture. Viable counts of La5 strain in the produced beverages ranged from 7.52 to 8.20 log CFU/mL, which is above the probiotic minimum (106 CFU/mL). Lactic acid was the most prevalent organic acid in all samples (660.1 to 1003.0 mg/100 mL). The fatty acid profiles of fermented beverages were as follows the mass fraction of saturated fatty acids was 22.2-82.7%, of unsaturated fatty acids 22.3-77.8% and of polyunsaturated fatty acids 15.5-65.9%. The main soy sugars were transformed well (80% stachyose and 50% raffinose conversion) into lactic acid during fermentation. Functional probiotic beverages were successfully produced from different volume ratios of ***'s milk and soy beverage by L. acidophilus La5 and yoghurt culture. Pure cow's milk and soy beverage served as control samples. Fermentation was performed at 43 °C by a combined culture consisting of the probiotic strain Lactobacillus acidophilus La5 and yoghurt culture. Viable counts of La5 strain in the produced beverages ranged from 7.52 to 8.20 log CFU/mL, which is above the probiotic minimum (106 CFU/mL). Lactic acid was the most prevalent organic acid in all samples (660.1 to 1003.0 mg/100 mL). The fatty acid profiles of fermented beverages were as follows the mass fraction of saturated fatty acids was 22.2-82.7%, of unsaturated fatty acids 22.3-77.8% and of polyunsaturated fatty acids 15.5-65.9%. The main soy sugars were transformed well (80% stachyose and 50% raffinose conversion) into lactic acid during fermentation. Functional probiotic beverages were successfully produced from different volume ratios of cow's milk and soy beverage by L. acidophilus La5 and yoghurt culture. Mixing cow's milk with soy beverage significantly improved the sensory properties of the product, especially its smell, taste and colour. The acceptability test showed good acceptance by potential consumers of all fermented beverage samples except for the sample made from 100% soy beverage. Material and methods Data were collected from opinion leaders/experts involved in management of HCV infections in Central European countries which participated in 9th Conference of the Central European Hepatologic Collaboration (Warsaw, 10-11 October 2019). A dedicated questionnaire collected current information related to HCV elimination in Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Slovakia. Results The HCV prevalence rate in particular countries varied from 0.2% to 1.7%. In most central European countries all the HCV infected population is eligible for reimbursement of treatment. However, in some countries there are still some limitations related to the stage of the disease and people who inject drugs. All countries have access to at least one pangenotypic regimen. The most common barrier to HCV elimination in all countries is insufficient political will to establish priority for HCV. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/Ml-133-hcl.html None of the reporting countries has established a national screening programme. Conclusions Access to therapy for HCV is similar and the majority of patients in Central Europe can be treated according to the current guidelines. We chose to replace one problem-based case on "Shock" with flipped-style teaching in the respiration circulation module of a private medical university. Our objective was to use the clinical presentation of "Shock" to open a window to interrelate basic science concepts of cardiovascular physiology and pathology. It aimed to merge the case-based discussion with small-group discussions in the form of FCR activity. The qualitative study gives an overview of comments of facilitators, observers, and leadership of the Department and University obtained during focus group discussions and in-depth interviews. Thematic analysis of responses emphasized the importance of FCR as an effective teaching learning modality, which can be made more effective by careful selection of topic and provision of facilities to support technology-enhanced learning. The discussions with facilitators, observers, and leadership revealed its usefulness through student's engagement and increased participation to build learning of the key concepts. Student satisfaction in these activities can be enhanced by construction of knowledge acquired in non-face-to-face component with substantial pre-reading materials, videos, peer discussions, quizzes, and prompt feedback. © The Author(s) 2020.Traditionally, statistical procedures have been derived via analytic calculations whose validity often relies on sample size growing to infinity. We use tools from deep learning to develop a new approach, adversarial Monte Carlo meta-learning, for constructing optimal statistical procedures. Statistical problems are framed as two-player games in which Nature adversarially selects a distribution that makes it difficult for a statistician to answer the scientific question using data drawn from this distribution. The players' strategies are parameterized via neural networks, and optimal play is learned by modifying the network weights over many repetitions of the game. Given sufficient computing time, the statistician's strategy is (nearly) optimal at the finite observed sample size, rather than in the hypothetical scenario where sample size grows to infinity. In numerical experiments and data examples, this approach performs favorably compared to standard practice in point estimation, individual-level predictions, and interval estimation. Methods We developed a longitudinal case conference curriculum called Health Equity Rounds (HER) to discuss and address the impact of structural racism and implicit bias on patient care. The curriculum engaged participants across training levels and disciplines on these topics utilizing case-based discussion, evidence-based exercises, and two relevant conceptual frameworks. It was delivered quarterly as part of a departmental case conference series. We evaluated HER's feasibility and acceptability by tracking conference attendance and administering postconference surveys. We analyzed quantitative survey data using descriptive statistics and qualitatively reviewed free-text comments. Results We delivered seven 1-hour HER conferences at our institution from June 2016 to June 2018. A mean of 66 participants attended each HER. Most survey respondents (88% or more) indicated that HER promoted personal reflection on implicit bias, and 75% or more indicated that HER would impact their clinical practice. Discussion HER provided a unique forum for practitioners across training levels to address structural racism and implicit bias. Our aim in dissemination is to provide meaningful tools for others to adapt at their own institutions, recognizing that HER should serve as a component of larger, multifaceted efforts to decrease structural racism and implicit bias in health care. Here, we present the technique of in situ split dissection along segments II/III plus portal disruption to segments IV-VIII (ISLT) as a salvage procedure to overcome inadequate gain of FLRV after PVE. METHODS In eight patients, FLRV was further pre-conditioned following failed PVE prior to hepatectomy (ISLT-group). We compared FLRV changes in the ISLT group with patients receiving extended right hepatectomy following sufficient PVE (PVEres-group). Survival of the ISLT-group was compared to PVEres patients and PVE patients with insufficient FLRV gain or tumor progress who did not receive further surgery (PVEnores-group). RESULTS Patient characteristics and surgical outcome were comparable in both groups. The mean FLRV-to-body-weight ratio in the ISLT group was smaller than in the PVEres-group pre- and post-PVE. One intraoperative mortality due to a coronary infarction was observed for an ISLT patient. ISLT was successfully completed in the remaining seven ISLT patients. Liver function and 2-year survival of ~ 50% was comparable to patients with extended right hepatectomy after efficient PVE. Patients who received a PVE but who were not subsequently resected (PVEnores) demonstrated no survival beyond 4 months. Patients in group A (n = 110) did not receive vitamin E while patients in group B (n = 105) and group C (n = 106) received oral treatment of vitamin E at 100 mg/day during follicular phase and luteal phase, respectively. RESULTS It was observed no significant differences of ovulation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, and ongoing pregnancy rate among the three groups. It was interesting that dosage of HMG were significant lower in group B compared with those in group A and group C (P less then 0.05). CONCLUSIONS A short-term supplementation of vitamin E can improve oxidative stress, and reduce exogenous HMG dosage to lower the economic cost with a similar pregnancy rate in the ovulation induction cycle. However, the supplementation does not alter the pregnancy rate in the ovulation induction cycle. The aim of this article is to examine the determinants of CAM use at the individual and country-level. METHODS Logistic multilevel regressions were applied analyzing data from 33,371 respondents in 21 European countries (including Israel) from the seventh round of the European Social Survey. We examined CAM in terms of overall use and also dichotomized treatments into physical and consumable subgroups. RESULTS At the individual level, we found CAM use to be associated with a range of socioeconomic, demographic and health indicators. At the country level, we found that countries' health expenditures were positively related to the prevalence of overall and physical CAM treatments. CONCLUSIONS A common predictor for CAM use, both at the individual (in terms of education and financial strain) and country-level (in terms of health expenditures per capita), is greater resources.

CONCLUSIONS A short-term supplementation of vitamin E can improve oxidative stress, and reduce exogenous HMG dosage to lower the economic cost with a similar pregnancy rate in the ovulation induction cycle. However, the supplementation does not alter the pregnancy rate in the ovulation induction cycle. The aim of this article is to examine the determinants of CAM use at the individual and country-level. METHODS Logistic multilevel regressions were applied analyzing data from 33,371 respondents in 21 European countries (including Israel) from the seventh round of the European Social Survey. We examined CAM in terms of overall use and also dichotomized treatments into physical and consumable subgroups. RESULTS At the individual level, we found CAM use to be associated with a range of socioeconomic, demographic and health indicators. At the country level, we found that countries' health expenditures were positively related to the prevalence of overall and physical CAM treatments. CONCLUSIONS A common predictor for CAM use, both at the individual (in terms of education and financial strain) and country-level (in terms of health expenditures per capita), is greater resources.

  • The results of the meta-analysis revealed that the postmortem CK-MB level in the pericardial fluid was significantly higher in the cardiac death group with a standard mean difference (SMD) = 0.63, 95% confidence interval (CI) = 0.09~1.17, p = 0.02. Information on potential confounders including age, race/ethnicity, education, occupation, family history of cancer, smoking status, alcohol consumption, total physical activity, body mass index, and daily dietary intake were collected at baseline. Bladder cancer cases were collected and confirmed by a centralized review of pathology reports. Cox proportional hazard models with time-varying covariates were used to examine associations of diabetes status, duration of diabetes, and diabetes treatment with bladder cancer risk. RESULTS During a median follow-up of 18.5 years, 865 bladder cancer cases were identified. There were no significant associations of diabetes, duration of diabetes, or diabetes treatment with risk of bladder cancer. Participants with prevalent diabetes did not have significantly higher risk of bladder cancer compared with those without diabetes. Second, inspired by sequence labeling tasks in natural language processing, we regard the OD and OC segmentation as a sequence labeling task and propose a novel fully convolutional network called SU-Net and combine it with the Viterbi algorithm to jointly decode the segmentation boundary. We also introduced a geometric parameter-based data augmentation method to generate more training samples in order to minimize the differences between training and test sets and reduce overfitting. Experimental results show that our method achieved state-of-the-art results on 2 datasets for both OD and OC segmentation and our method outperforms most of the ophthalmologists in terms of achieving agreement out of 6 ophthalmologists on the MESSIDOR dataset for both OD and OC segmentation. The distributions of the annual total GPP and NPP hotspots and cold spots were primarily determined by land cover and land cover changes among the investigated years. The average annual total NPP/GPP ratios were 0.5647, 0.5350 and 0.5573 in the years 2000, 2006 and 2012, respectively. The calculated respiration in 2006 was the highest, followed by those in 2012 and 2000. The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the role of immuno-modulators as candidate biomarkers of malignant transformation in NF1 patients with plexiform neurofibromas as well as predictors of response to immunotherapeutic approaches. METHODS Sera from a total of 125 NF1 patients with quantified internal tumor load were included, and 25 of them had MPNSTs. A total of six immuno-modulatory factors (IGFBP-1, PD-L1, IFN-α, GM-CSF, PGE-2, and AXL) were measured in these sera using respective ELISA. RESULTS NF1 patients with MPNSTs had significantly elevated PD-L1 levels in their sera compared to NF1 patients without MPNSTs. By contrast, AXL concentrations were significantly lower in sera of NF1-MPNST patients.

We believe this is the first application of co-culture between white-rot fungus and Clostridium to produce butanol from cellulose; butanol production from lignocellulose by co-culture of C. saccharoperbutylacetonicum with Phlebia sp. MG-60-P2 and its transformant should be pursued. Aryl alcohol oxidase (AAO), an extracellular H2O2-providing enzyme, plays a central role in lignin depolymerization. Cost-effective production of AAO has not been achieved, due to the low yield of enzyme-producing microorganisms and the high cost of fermentation media. This study aims to develop a cost-effective medium for high-yield production of AAO in submerged culture using a recombinant Aspergillus nidulans strain. Results demonstrate that corn steep liquor (CSL) was a rich but inexpensive nitrogen source for AAO production, and CSL can provide enough trace metals and vitamins (i.e. pyridoxine) for A. nidulans. A 2-level Plackett-Burman design was utilized to determine the main affecting factors in AAO production. The medium was further optimized by a 3-level Box-Behnken design to obtain the optimum medium component concentrations (61.0 g/L maltose, 26.4 g/L CSL, and 13.8 g/L NaNO3). METHODS In 2013, a survey (n = 771) using unlabelled vignettes either depicting a person with symptoms typical for schizophrenia or major depression was carried out in Hanoi. All respondents had to indicate whether the person was suffering from a medical illness or not. As an indicator of public stigma, the desire for social distance was measured. A possible correlation between expectations towards the course of illness and social distance was evaluated using a linear regression model. RESULTS 85 % of respondents endorsed that the person depicted in the schizophrenia vignette had a mental illness, compared to only 60 %, who were confronted with the depression vignette. This attribution of mental illness was correlated with higher levels of desire for social distance only in the schizophrenia vignette. While in the case of schizophrenia negative prognostic perceptions were associated with more desire for social distance, in the event of depression, it was only the expectation of lifelong dependency. Moreover, only for depression, positive expectations towards the course of illness correlated with less desire for social distance. CONCLUSION These results indicate an impact of prognostic expectations on the desire for social distance and support strategies that aim at maintaining social integration and strengthening autonomy. MATERIALS AND METHODS Immunohistochemistry was used to analyze the expression of PD-L1 and the abundance of CD4+ and CD8+ tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs). Chi-square test and Cox proportional hazards regression were conducted to investigate the correlations between the immune microenvironment features and clinicopathological variables and survival, as well as to explore the potential of immunotherapy in this patient population. OBJECTIVES To evaluate whether combining stability and discriminability criteria in building radiomic classifiers will improve the prognosis of cancer recurrence in early stage non-small cell lung cancer on non-contrast computer tomography (CT). MATERIALS AND METHODS CT scans of 610 patients with early stage (IA, IB, IIA) NSCLC from four independent cohorts were evaluated. A total of 350 patients from Cleveland Clinic Foundation and University of Pennsylvania were divided into two equal sets for training (D1) and validation set (D2). 80 patients from The Cancer Genome Atlas Lung Adenocarcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma and 195 patients from The Cancer Imaging Archive, were used as independent second (D3) and third (D4) validation sets. A linear discriminant analysis (LDA) classifier was built based on the most stable and discriminate features. In addition, a radiomic risk score (RRS) was generated by using least absolute shrinkage and selection operator, Cox regression model to predict time to progression (TTP) following surgery.
