With an immense and sprawling card divided into sectors, games to 128 players, future toys of the future like murderer robots and a sky teeming with helicopters, aircraft and a launch rocket, Battlefield 2042 resemblies to A hybrid of the former familiar game and a lot of new ideas, even if all are not super consequent. I had the chance to play a beta version of a map and a mode on the PS5 version of the game, and I came out at once impressed and a bit skeptical.

The card was called orbital and presented a wide range of landscape elements, the foliage of the jungle to a very large military spatial complex with a launching ramp and several imposing buildings from which to jump, hover and shoot. The verticality was definitely a characteristic of the card because it is possible both to use a grapple and use a zipline to mount. Since it was a beta version of the map - and the advice of all, not very recent - things seemed rather good overall, with particularly pleasant meteorological effects around the Tornado occurring at random. Yes, it s true, from time to time, a tornado tears his destructive path on the map, and at least in the games I played, the player s response was to ride this sucker, even if it meant of course death and abandonment of the match.

The size of the match has doubled, from 64 players at 128, but given the size of the card, it does not seem clogged because there are so many areas in which to get lost. At least in conquest mode, the card is divided into sectors to capture, which each sector with a flag. Battlefield 2042 fills the bots, and there were certainly games where the bots almost seemed to be more numerous than players. The robots were generally easy to spot, but not necessarily easy to kill, and their IA went from stupid to ridiculously accurate remotely. I understand the goal of the bots - keep full games and serve as a placeholder for human players - and I also imagine that the real game will depend much less on them during its launch.

As usual with Battlefield, all the weapons I had the opportunity to try felt pretty well, especially the assault rifles, SMGs and sniper rifles. One of the best mechanical news is the possibility of exchanging arms attachments in the action of the action using the radial menu. Overall, the course of the fight seemed very Battlefield: a little serious, a little clumsy and always frenetic, with spare time, except on these long hikes through the very large map.

If you like land and air vehicles, there is a lot to explore both as a driver / pilot and machine gun. The helicopter was my favorite, but the electric trucks, the tanks and the electrical planes seemed to be very fun too. About its futuristic frame, Battlefield 2042 put a lot on speculative equipment and enjoyed the break of the Battlefield games more focused on history. There is no campaign at all, but there are four specialists who have unique capabilities and whose stories create some form of continuity between matches and cards. How the role of specialist is attributed to the players remained a bit a mystery for me.

Since the beta was only that, the technical problems were less disturbing than they would have been in a version closer to the exit. There was certainly a little pop-in texture and some inconsistency with the names of the players and the designations of the teams appearing above their heads. There were gogo graphic anomalies and certainly strange animations around the bots. But generally, the game went well given the insane quantity of current things, visual effects and players coming and come.

I spent a few hours with Battlefield 2042 and I would have liked to have more time to play. It looks a lot like a Battlefield game, and although it can involve excellent and disappointing experiences, I thought the map, weapons and the general flow of incredibly varied combat through the sectors were all in good condition, even if they were still raw. The number of bots was disappointing and of course, as for any multiplayer shooting game, the real pleasure comes with increased time and mastery. I can not wait to play the full game when he released on November 19th.
