Who can apply for this grade?

Usually, Fellows are those professional engineers who work in a senior role with significant responsibility and autonomy and can show the below-listed qualities:

Essential:

·        A position of significant autonomy or/and senior responsibility in your particular field

·        Leadership qualities that can be demonstrated

·        Influencing policy and strategy making decisions in a business or technical environment

·        A structured method of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) explaining both the way you have developed your CPD in your career to date and your future plan for CPD

·        The promotion of the profession of engineering to potential engineers and young engineers

Desirable:

Expert knowledge in a particular engineering area

Technical and engineering resource management or/and personnel management and development

 

Optional:

Responsibility for a budget and the related risk

Active development and use of new technologies in engineering and related areas at the senior level

Application of different types of fundamental principles and complicated techniques across wide and often unpredictable different types of contexts

How much does it cost?

A new registrant pays an application fee and a yearly subscription fee as well as the appropriate Engineering Council fees. Those with existing IMechE membership pay an application fee and the difference between the Member and Fellow annual subscription fee.

If you are not professionally active or your yearly income is less than £18,000, you are eligible for a reduced subscription.
