Nitrous oxide has also been used in labor and delivery to help women manage pain during childbirth. It is often used as an alternative to more invasive pain relief options, such as epidurals.  Another surprising benefit of nitrous oxide is its use in treating depression. In recent years, researchers have been exploring the use of Nitrous Oxide as a treatment for treatment-resistant depression. In a small study published in the journal Biological Psychiatry, researchers found that patients who received nitrous oxide treatment showed significant improvements in their depression symptoms. However, more research is needed to fully understand the potential benefits and risks of using nitrous oxide to treat depression.
