The history of defibrillation dates back to the late 19th century when the concept of electric shock to restore cardiac rhythm was first introduced. However, it wasn't until the mid-20th century that significant advancements were made in the development of Defibrillators. The introduction of the direct current (DC) defibrillator by Dr. Paul Zoll in the 1950s marked a major breakthrough in the treatment of cardiac arrest. Since then, defibrillators have evolved tremendously, with the emergence of automated external defibrillators (AEDs) and implantable cardioverter-defibrillators (ICDs).
