The New York Times is continuing its drive into the gaming industry by extensively releasing its upcoming major release, Connections. The game, which has been in beta testing since June, is now essentially available everywhere Times games are sold. This includes the web, the NYT Games app for iOS and Android, and "soon" it will also be accessible under the "play" page of the primary Times app alongside Wordle, sudoku, and the crossword puzzle.

The core of Connections Game is a word-matching game. Here is the official description:

How do you play? You are given 16 words. What is your goal? Find the hidden connection and divide them into four separate groups of four. The four category colors are yellow (the most obvious), green, blue, and purple (the trickiest). But, gamers only get four attempts to finish the problem before it's all over.

Of course, Connections is just the most recent installment in the newspaper's efforts to fulfill its gaming goals, which were formally launched with the purchase of the widely popular word game Wordle. Since then, the newspaper has tried to maintain Wordle and expand its crosswords app into a larger game-focused app. The Times shut down the arithmetic game Digits last month, so the process hasn't been altogether easy.
