The easiest way to clean your gold jewellery is with a mild soap or dish detergent. Add your jewellery to a bowl of warm water with just a couple of drops of the soap, and soak it for a few minutes before brushing away any stuck on grime with a soft bristled toothbrush. Rinse thoroughly and your piece should be gleaming. This method is best for removing mild stains, tarnish, and general wear-and-tear, but may not be strong enough to remove major spots or rust.

For more stubborn dirt areas, try adding a drop of ammonia to your soapy solution and gently scrubbing with the toothbrush again. Rinse and dry the jewellery to finish. This process is also a good choice for gold overlay pieces (that is, where the gold is laid over another metal).

While regular cleaning will help keep your solid gold jewellery looking fresh, you can also do a few other things to prolong the time in-between deep cleans. For example, storing your gold jewellery away from high-traffic areas will prevent it from getting covered in dust. Also, removing your jewellery before doing the dishes or other activities that may come into contact with chlorine and other chemicals will help keep it looking pristine. Lastly, keeping your jewellery stored separately and possibly wrapped in cloth will ensure that it doesn't scratch against other pieces when tucked away for storage.
