Amerkan Pride & Speak official Ebonictees collectables
Denver, CO - January 16, 2024 - From the soulful blues of the Mississippi Delta to the pulsating rhymes of hip-hop, a powerful language resonates: African American Vernacular English (AAVE), also known as Ebonics. Far from mere "slang," Ebonics and its sister dialects like Gullah-GeeChee, and Louisiana Creole, are vibrant vernaculars woven from the threads of resilience, creativity, and community. Rising from the ashes of slavery and discrimination, these languages are more than just words; they are portals to understanding Black history, identity, and cultural richness.
And now, a bold new BIPOC Denver-based startup named Ebonictees is stepping up to celebrate the beauty and power of Ebonics and AAVE, while reclaiming its rightful place in American culture. Ebonictees challenges the persistent stigmas surrounding these languages and empowers a new
generation to embrace their linguistic heritage. "AAVE and its dialects are not simply ways of speaking, they are living testimonies to the Black experience," says Michael Derwin W, founder of Ebonictees. "Our mission is to amplify the voices, stories, and creativity embedded within these languages, while dispelling the harmful stereotypes that have long held them back.” Taking a page from HipHop’s long lasting journey, Ebonictees hopes to forge the language even further into the World’s vernacular usage. All along firmly in belief that what they are bringing forth is not racial/cultural appropriation, but instead racial/cultural appreciation.
Ebonictees' vibrant collection line showcases bold designs that playfully embody the spirit of Ebonics. With a range of products including t-shirts, tote bags, mugs, and coats, each item proudly displays phrases such as "I ain't b'out dat life no mo" to hoodies celebrating the phrase "It'z gon' be aigh't." Beyond merchandise, Ebonictees hopes to partner with educators and community leaders to offer workshops and resources that deepen understanding and appreciation for AAVE and its cultural significance.
Join Ebonictees on their journey to empower, educate, and celebrate the legacy of these vital languages.
