Growing Role of PPPs and Locomotive Fleets on Lease

Realizing that leasing can help address the shortage of
Locomotive Leasing , Indian Railways and several state governments are exploring the PPP model. Private partners are responsible for sourcing the required fleets which are then leased to the public entities.

For example, the Kolkata Metro Rail Corporation (KMRC) leased 20 metro rail locomotives for a period of 15 years from BEML under a PPP agreement.

Similarly, the Dedicated Freight Corridor Corporation of India (DFCCIL) has leased 20 diesel locomotives from Alpha Lease to haul freight on the Eastern DFC route.
