Fluorspar deposits are formed through hydrothermal vein filling or replacement of limestone. The main producers of fluorspar are China, Mexico, Mongolia and South Africa. Though a minor mineral, fluorspar plays a strategic role in many economies due to its varied industrial applications.

Fluorspar finds its primary usage in the production of hydrofluoric acid which is used to produce fluorochemicals and aluminium fluoride. Some of the key uses of fluorspar are as follows:

Hydrofluoric Acid Production
- Hydrofluoric acid is used in the production of fluorocarbons for refrigerants, aerosol propellants, solvents, and fire extinguishing fluids. It is also used in the petrochemical industry.
