If you work in just about any type of industry, you have surely heard about HR. That is human resources, for those who don’t know. It doesn’t matter the kind of business you do, you know that HR should be respected and paid attention to. They do a lot for your company, but you might not know exactly what they do. What are their job responsibilities? How do they make your life better? And why do so many companies pay for HR consulting firms in DC to ensure they are handling this part of the business so well?

There is a lot to know about HR and the more you know, the better you will be able to work with them.

What Does HR Do?

In the most basic sense, the HR department is a group in a company that is in charge of handling the human aspect of a company. These people wear several hats every single day and manage everything from recruiting and onboarding new workers to negotiating the complex web of workplace norms and regulations. They know how to get new employees, they know how to train them, and they know the local regulations and laws that everyone needs to follow.

Essentially, HR serves as a bridge between employees and the company they work for. They are the ones who write the rulebook for the business and know it inside and out, memorizing every page and every paragraph.

Hiring new talent is very similar to casting for a blockbuster film and one of HR's most important responsibilities. When a position becomes available, HR takes the stage to scout, interview, and pick the most qualified individuals. They're the matchmakers, bringing together talents, personalities, and business culture to form a cohesive and effective team.

Training & Evaluations

Employee onboarding is yet another task that HR can easily tackle. They take control from the minute a new employee steps in the door, laying the foundation and creating an environment for a smooth transition into the culture of the company. In a very big way, the HR department serves as tour guides for new employees, exposing them to everything they will need to know when they are working for the business.

What about performance evaluations? HR is at the forefront of this as well, because they establish methods to evaluate, acknowledge, and improve employees.

Benefits and perks? This is up to HR too. The department shapes the work experience, from healthcare benefits to casual Fridays. They are the architects of workplace morale, fully comprehending that happy employees are the foundation of every successful business.

Without a properly trained and fully functioning HR department, no company will be able to thrive. These are the people who bring in other people and create the sort of culture that every business needs.
