Self-assembling peptide scaffolds are also an exciting new area - these short protein fragments spontaneously organize into nanofibrous matrices mimicking the extracellular matrix. Additionally, incorporation of signaling molecules, growth factors and stem cells within scaffolds enhances regeneration by stimulating specific cellular behaviors.
