The company has OSRS gold registered two trademarks in the UK One with the title "OSRS Gold" as well as another for "RS Gold" and noting that the company registered the use of the phrases as words. This should stop third-party websites from being able to claim that they sell RS Gold.

A quick Google search on either will bring up a myriad of websites, majority of them with one of the terms mentioned in their URLs. They offer money in RuneScape to exchange real money. This came after the announcement on October 13 that Jagex has put an end in "real-world trading". On its blog "The RuneScape Team" stated that "gold purchased through RWT real-world trading is an issue in any online game that has a exchangeable currency."

Jagex claims it will send "messages to those who we've identified as being involved within RWT" within "the next few hours". "For anyone who has been involved, we'd like to emphasize that this is your sole und only caution," it added.

The announcement also included the news that the game's PvP option, Duel Arena, would undergo sweeping changes, including the more strict enforcement of the game's code of conduct, in order to encourage more positive gameplay. Jagex states that Duel Arena "has been a catalyst to this kind of toxic behavior".

Before that publishers say that "short-term measures" will be in place "until our teams of buy OSRS GP developers are able to bring a major update to fully replaces Duel Arena next year."
