Welcome to Day 2 of P.K. Subban vs. the Ottawa Senators, a Stanley Cup playoffs celebration. Were happy to have you.None of this would be po sible without the participation of the NHL, which opted not to suspended Subban for a slash that injured Senators winger Mark Stone on Wednesday night; the Senators themselves, who couldnt stop talking about it on Thursday; or each teams respective fan bases, which have ground workplace production in two Canadian provinces to a Isaiah McKenzie Jersey halt in the past few hours.MORE: | | Its time to beat the 2015 playoffs first dead horse until it comes apart. There will be hooves and teeth everywhere! Lets do it together.Stone did not fake it. The widespread initial reaction when Stone went down was presumptuous. There are hundreds more social media comments, including a similar one from this idiot.Mark Stone knows the rules, man. Cant knock him for it. Sean Gentille (@seangentille) It bears repeating: Injured players deserve the benefit of the doubt, especially when a strong man crushes them with a hockey stick in a largely unpadded area comprised of many tiny bones. Imagine how you react to a bee flying by your face or a slammed door before judging Stones initial freakout too harshly. It hurt, and Stone reacted in a totally understandable way. Then the Senators announced on Thursday that Stone has a microfracture in his wrist, which should have put a stop to any residual complaints. It didnt, but it should have, really. Its the sort of injury that would hurt initially, give you problems through the rest of the game, and not stop you from reacting to a scrum involving your teammates. Not coincidentally, that all happened to Stone in Game 1.NEED PLAYOFF TICKETS? Sens GM Bryan Murray said on Thursday that the team knew Stone was trying to play through an injury, and that he is very questionable for the rest of the series. It would be Mitch Morse Jersey a major lo s. Stone is fifth in the league in points since Jan. 1 and a Calder Trophy contender.I kiddingly said to a few people (Thursday) that hes a Western Canada guy, so obviously hes coming back and trying to play, Murray said.P.K. Subban does not deserve to be suspended. When a players actions injure another player, it can only make a supplementary decision more harsh. If the play wasnt deemed worthy of suspension, the injury has no bearing on the decision. Look at Shane Doans hit on Kris Letang as a recent example. The leagues stance was that it was standard interference (i.e., not suspendable) with a crappy outcome for Letang. Thems the breaks. Another thing that bears repeating: A play can be illegal, injurious and penalizable, but not suspendable. It happens.P.K. Subban deserved to be kicked out. This is where Senators fans are pushing their luck. Stone legitimately left the game because of Subbans slashing major. The rule is the rule. The end. It was a fairly standard, still-illegal play with a cut-and-dry outcome.P.K. Subban does not deserve to be investigated. He said mean stuff to Stone beforehand? That, at times, happens in sports. If Subban said, Im going to two-hand you in the wrist while youre in front of the net and away from the puck, and get kicked out, then youre going to leave the game twice and come back, and were going to win 4-3, that would be impre sively predictive and not much more. Athletes arent meant to be taken literally (and Subban, for whatever its worth, said he didnt threaten anyone). Were not threatening anybody here, were just asking for justice in this situation where weve lost one of our best players, , adding that he hoped the league would check on whether an official overheard ( Buffalo Bills Golf Sporting Goods or a microphone picked up) anything Subban might have said. The Senators have a history of this, too; owner Eugene Melnyk says he commi sioned a forensic investigation to determining whether Matt Cooke sliced Erik Karl sons Achilles tendon in 2013. .Subbans play was dumb and risky enough; he was on the penalty kill, within clear sight of an official and the puck wasnt close, and he tried to do some stick work in front of the net. He didnt get away with it, and he was punished significantly. Why add extreme malicious intent to the mix?"I didn't even look to see where I was going slash him, Subban said on Thursday.Dave Cameron probably should have kept quiet. Its not exactly in any teams interest to Jamie Gillan Jersey flat-out say were getting one their guys back or else in front of a bunch of microphones. "An easy solution," is what Cameron called taking out one of the Canadiens' best players if Subban wasn't punished further. Now, if something horrible happens in Game 2, intentional or not, Cameron, the Senators and the league will be in a heap of trouble. A large heap. A Todd Bertuzzi-sized heap. Cameron was lucky not to get fined; it wouldve been within the NHLs rights to do it.Its not a big deal that he didnt. The other side of the coin is that Cameron, understandably, was peeved about a dirty play that took out his best forward for at least some amount of time. Itss tough to blame him for that, and bad blood is always fun, especially for people who arent going to be legally liable for anything to come of it.Fans should definitely not keep quiet. And they wont. :Theres no nice way to put this: There may not be a combination of teams in the league that are any worse suited to handle this kind of situation. Montreal fans and media are obse sed with the teams history and status, yet weirdly Baylon Spector Jersey predisposed to view everything through the lens of shadowy conspiracy; Senators fans and media are almost cripplingly insecure about their place in the hockey world and prone to overreact to even the tiniest controversies. Thats an awfully bad pairing for this sort of thing, and if youre not directly rooting for one of the teams involved in this series, you may want to just check out now. Its going to get a lot worse before it gets better.Thats part of the fun, though, isnt it laughing at otherwise reasonable folks who devolve into shrieking disasters over a sports tournament. Drink in the insanity. Commune with it.Its not a big deal if they do. Maybe nix the Mark Stone faked it talk and the search for a notarized letter from Subban stating his intent to injure. Or dont. Its the playoffs.
