Responding to Polygon's request to clarification, Blizzard issued the following statement regarding the incident. The statement clarifies that the publisher made adjustments to conform the United States trade restrictions and economic sanctions laws that came into effect on the 14th of July."We aren't able to speak about reports of the Iranian government's decision to ban games for its citizens. We do know it is that United States trade restrictions and sanctions laws on economics prohibit Blizzard from conducting business with people from certain nations, which includes Iran. We've recently strengthened processes to guarantee that we comply with these laws. This means that we have to restrict accessibility to Blizzard's games to players from these countries."
