Introduction

Varicose veins are visible, swollen veins that appear close to the skin. They are most prevalent in the legs and ankles and affect approximately 5% of Indians. These veins result from weakened valves within the veins. Normally, these valves guide blood from the legs towards the heart. When they malfunction, blood accumulates in the legs, exerting pressure on the veins, causing them to bulge and enlarge.
