Have you made a mistake in booking your train ticket? Do not worry! IRCTC, the ticketing division of Indian Railways, permits passengers to modify the names of passengers on electronic tickets. The Indian Railway system ensures to offer feasibility and convenience to the customers. Customers can check and change their itinerary through PNR status. To check PNR status, you can simply add your 10-digit number to the IRCTC website. 

Passengers can change their name through a few steps. Also, IRCTC allows passengers to choose offline or online methods as per their feasibility. 

  1. Offline Method (At Least 24 Hours Before Departure):

  • Print your e-ticket.

  • Visit your nearest railway reservation office.

  • Carry the original photo ID of a passenger on the ticket for PNR enquiry.

  • Note: As per IRCTC rules, name changes are allowed only once and may incur a fee.

  1. Online Method (Subject to Availability):

  • Access the official website of IRCTC website and log in to your account with your credentials. 

  • Go to the “My Booking” tab and insert your PNR status number to locate your ticket. 

  • Select the ticket on which you want to change the name of the passenger. 

  • Click on “Change the passenger name” to make changes. 

  • Click on “Enter new Information” to make changes in the name and enter the correct name as per your government ID proof. 

  • As per IRCTC rules, a fee may be incurred to change the name of a passenger. You must pay the required fees using an online payment method. 

  • Lastly, passengers will receive a confirmation on their SMS or WhatsApp regarding the name change.
