Plastic sheets are thin continuous polymeric materials mainly consisting of various types of plastics. They are produced by processes like casting, calendaring and extrusion. Uses of Plastic Film in Packaging
Packaging is the largest end-use application for plastic sheets, accounting for more than 60% of total demand. They are used to make various flexible packaging formats like plastic bags, pouches, shrink films, stretch wraps etc. Plastic bags made from LDPE or HDPE films are the ubiquitous choice for carrying grocery and other retail items due to their strength, low cost and environmental stability. Multilayer coextruded films consisting of several plastic resins are commonly used for packaging food items to provide properties like moisture and gas barrier. Plastic shrink films made from PVC or polyolefins tightly wrap around irregular shaped products during transportation and storage using the phenomenon of shrinking under heat. Stretch wrap films made of polyethylene or polypropylene elastomers securely hold packages of various shapes and prevent them from collapsing during shipping.

Uses in Agriculture
Plastic Films sheets are increasingly used in agricultural applications like greenhouses, mulching and silage bags. Greenhouse films made from linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) or ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) provide protection from environmental factors and regulate temperature, humidity and light transmission for optimum plant growth. Plastic mulching films laid on the soil surface help control weeds, retain soil moisture and modify soil temperature conditions. Silage plastic bags and films aid in the anaerobic fermentation process of crops like corn to produce high-quality animal feed. Their impermeability to oxygen and sealing ability play an important role in successful ensilage.

Construction Applications
In construction, plastic sheets are used for moisture proofing, waterproofing, insulation, glazing, sheeting and roofing. Sheetings and building wraps made from polyethylene retard water ingress and vapor transmission through walls, roofs and foundations. PVC membranes serve as high-performance waterproofing and damp proofing underlayment. BOPP and PE films are laminated to bitumen to manufacture roofing membranes and waterproofing compound tapes. Glass reinforced plastic (GRP) sheets are used for glazing, cladding, lighting and roofing applications requiring durability and weather resistance. LDPE geomembranes find application as synthetic liners in landfills, mining sites and reservoirs to contain leachates and prevent soil contamination.
