What is it?

A hematology analyzer is a medical device used to analyze blood and body fluid samples in clinical laboratory hematology. It is designed to measure and analyze all the components present in the blood such as red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets as well as other cell types.

Working of CBC machine

CBC machine work on the basic principle of flow cytometry and impedance. In flow cytometry, the components in a blood sample such as cells and platelets are suspended in a fluid and passed through a laser beam. As they pass through the laser, light is scattered at different angles depending on the internal complexity and surface properties of each cell type. Hematology Analyzer Specific detectors then collect these scatter patterns to identify and count each cell type.

In impedance technology, an electrical current is passed through the sample. As cells pass through this current, they cause a change in electrical impedance which is proportional to cell size. The impedance signals are then analyzed tocount and determine the volumes of cells like RBCs, WBCs and platelets. Some high-end analyzers use both flow cytometry and impedance to gain a more comprehensive analysis of the blood sample.

Advantages of Hematology Analyzers

The key advantage of CBC machine is their ability to quickly analyze multiple parameters in a blood sample simultaneously in an automated, cost-effective and accurate manner. Some of the main advantages are:

- High Precision and Accuracy: Analyzers use sophisticated optics and detection technologies to precisely count and classify cells and detect even small abnormalities. This results in very high accuracy levels compared to manual methods.
