Rice is a starch-rich grain consumed by a wide population worldwide. Oryza sativa is the most popular Asian rice, with high production and cultivation worldwide. Moreover, of all rice cultivars, the high-grain variety has a high economic return.

Moreover, rice cultivation requires a wet environment, waterlogged fields, enough sunshine, and hot and humid weather conditions. If you wish to become a rice cultivator, you can buy a Sonalika Mahabali tractor. This is India’s first paddy special tractor. It works well in a rice field. Let’s check the various processes of rice cultivation in India.

Rice Cultivation Steps:

Rice farming involves various steps like weather conditions, soil preparation, planting, irrigation, pest-disease control and harvesting. Let’s take a look at these processes below.

Climatic Requirements:

  • Rice grows best in hot and humid regions. It requires a lot of water and adequate sunlight.

  • The ideal temperature range for this farming is from 20 °C to 40 °C. High temperatures above 42 °C can harm the crops and hinder their growth.

Soil Preparation:

  • Rice grows best in clay or clay loam soils because they retain water well, which is essential for the crop's growth.

  • Before ploughing, farmers should flood the field 1 to 2 days in advance. It will help in keeping the surface covered with water. To effectively plough the rice field, one can use a New Holland 3230 tractor.

  • During puddling, they should maintain a water depth of about 2.5 cm.

Planting:

  1. Preparation: Before planting rice, farmers should flood the field and keep it covered with water for a day or two.

  2. Puddling: They should maintain a shallow water depth of about 2.5 cm during puddling to prepare the soil.

  3. Sowing: Plant rice seeds 2–3 cm deep and space them 8–10 inches apart in rows.

Harvesting:

For early and medium varieties of rice, harvesting happens about 26 to 30 days after the flowers bloom. For taller varieties, it's around 36 to 40 days after flowering. Farmers should harvest them when they have around 20-25% moisture left in them.

Once the rice grains are harvested, growers should store them in a cool, dry place to keep them fresh. To transport them for storage, they can use a VST Series 9 Tractor.
