Market Overview:

Flight Control System Industry Size is expected to reach USD 11.09 Billion by 2030, registering a CAGR of 3.51% during 2020-2030.

The flight control systems are operated by the pilot to control the direction, attitude, and forces of flight. It consists of primary and secondary systems. While ailerons, elevators, and rudder constitute the primary control system and are required to control the aircraft for safe flight, wing flaps, spoilers, leading edge devices, and trim systems constitute the secondary control system and functions to enhance the performance of the airplane and relieve the pilot of excessive control forces.

Advances in technology have led to the introduction of fly-by-wire (FBW) control systems for aircraft. This system converts flight control movements to electronic signals and transmits them through wires, thereby eliminating manual control. It is an electronic interface that empowers flight control computers to determine movement of actuators at each control surface and to provide the expected response. In addition, there increased usage of high-resistive union makes the aircraft safer in the event of lightning strikes. Thus, the shift toward next-generation FCS is the latest trend in the market.

Key Players:

Liebherr Group (Switzerland), Honeywell International Inc(US), Woodward Inc (US), Safran (France), General Dynamics Corporation (US), Moog Inc (US), Lockheed Martin Corporation (US), United Technologies Corporation (US), BAE Systems plc (UK), Saab AB (Sweden), Parker Hannifin Corporation (US)

Competitive Analysis:

The Aerospace Flight Control System Industry  is highly fragmented with a limited number of large- and small-sized players between whom the competition is intense. Most vendors operate across product lines and offer products to multiple industries, whereas other vendors deal with more niche segments and provide only a limited number of products to the defence industry. Vendors have started to shift their manufacturing bases to APAC for greater cost-effectiveness. In addition, the need for an enhanced response time is expected to gain increased market traction during the forecast period. This drives the vendors to acquire or set up manufacturing facilities in APAC. The need for higher revenue and customer base expansion has forced global players to enter into alliances with local players to adequately serve the end users.

The growth of suppliers depends on factors such as market conditions, government support, and industry development. Access to capital hinders the entry of new players in the market. Therefore, vendors must expand geographically while reviving domestic demand to achieve sustained growth. Vendors can boost profitability by practicing efficient production techniques that minimize product costs and mitigate associated risks.

Segments Analysis:

For the convenience of the report and enhanced understanding; The Flight Control System Industryis segmented in to 4 key dynamics

Segmentation by Platform: Fixed, Rotary.

Segmentation by Technology: Fly-by-Wire, Hydro-Mechanical, and others.

Segmentation by Application: Commercial, Business, Military.

Segmentation by Regions: Comprises Geographical regions - Americas (North & Latin), Europe, APAC and Middle East & Africa.

Regional Analysis:

In 2014, North America witnessed an economic growth of 2.5% and Latin America of 3.9%, which is expected to have a positive impact on the aviation market during the forecast period. A total of 12,650 new aircraft is expected to be in operation by 2033 and increasing demand for FCS in the commercial aviation industry is foreseen. The growth in the number of aircraft, as well as introduction of very light jets in this region, has resulted in an increase in the growth.

There was an increase in the passenger traffic by 1.9% in 2013 from 0.8% in 2012. This increase in passenger traffic was accommodated by 8,030 aircraft in 2013, and the number is expected to increase during the forecast period. This increase in passenger traffic has necessitated the need for developing automated systems such as fly-by-wire control systems, which ensures the safety and security of the passengers.
