Twenty-four women filed civil suits against Watson seeking damages based on their interactions with Madden 23 coins. To date, Watson has settled 20 of those suits, leaving four cases pending. Thirty women have also accused the Texans of enabling Watson's alleged sexual misconduct. The Texans have reached a settlement with all of the women. 2 Texas grand juries declined to charge Watson as is not uncommon in cases of sexual assault. Texas grand juries remain closed as well as there's no way to discern what evidence jurors chose to present. Watson consistently denied guilt.

Watson's disciplinary hearing in the league started on the 28th of June on a Tuesday and was presided by retired Federal Judge Sue Lewis Robinson. Robinson was appointed the league's disciplinary agent jointly by Madden NFL 23 and the Madden NFL 23 along with the Madden NFL 23PA according to an agreement to collectively bargain.

According to Rob Maaddi at the Associated Press sources from the league suggested they believed that Madden NFL 23 was pushing for a minimum suspension of one year for Watson however Watson's attorney, Rusty Hardin, and his legal team wereobviouslyseeking no suspension. Maaddi also reported that the league was willing to consider a shorter suspension of 6-8 games, in order to avoid appeals process.

It appears that Madden NFL 23 is known to have had a difficult time applying discipline to players accused of sexual assault. The most notable instance was the suspension of two games for former Ravens wide receiver Ray Rice, who was recorded on video punching his then-fiancée, knocking her unconscious. The league faced criticism for having to suspend Rice for just two games, and its reaction was to stop Rice for a period of indefinite suspension. Following that, Madden NFL 23 implemented six-game suspensions as the baseline for players who committed sexual assault and domestic violence.

However, the league is not always adhering to the standard. In 2016 Giants kicker Josh Brown was suspended for one game following his arrest for domestic violence against his former wife. It was later discovered that the Giants knew of Brown's lengthy history that involved domestic violence.

The list continues. Jameis Winston was suspended for three games for allegedly inflicting harm on one Uber driver. Greg Hardy allegedly attempted to choke a woman before throwing her over a futon, which was covered by guns. Madden NFL 23 cut the initial suspension of 10 games to just four games. It occurred prior to the time that Madden NFL 23 instituted the 6-game baseline, however Ben Roethlisberger served just a three-game suspension from 2010 after being credibly accused of sexual assault.

According to Tony Buzbee, the attorney representing Watson's accusers teams attempted to contact any of the women in order to learn what their stories were about Watson. The Madden NFL 23 however did meet with a few accusers during the course of its investigation into Watson's conduct, however, Buzbee admitted to SB Nation he got the impression that the Madden NFL 23 was just performing the usual routine.
