If you are planning to use APEGS CBA (Competency-Based assessment) system, then you must the instructions you need to follow. Therefore, taking your need into account, we have written this blog to let you know the instructions you need to follow. In addition, we will also tell you about the roles and responsibilities.

Initial steps before you apply:

1.   Make sure that your resume is up to date to include key job roles, achievements and projects over the period of work experience you are claiming (at least four years). It will save you time in the completion of the Employment History and selection of projects to use as examples in the Competency Self-Assessment. (Keep in mind: a project doesn’t need to be completed to use it as a competency example).

2.   Make sure that you maintain all your CPD goals and activities.

3.   Become familiar with the Competency Framework and its Indicators/Workplace Examples (including any discipline-specific indicators that are available for your area of practice for engineering). They are included in the Competency Self-Assessment section of the online system.

4.   For major learning activities, take the time to think about the major learning that you earned including how it may have impacted your practice and contribution to showing competency within any of the Competency Categories.

5.   There is an optional tutorial in the APEGS CBA system for engineering applicants in the drop-down measure that you will find after logging in. A tutorial for geoscientists will be available in the future.

Roles and responsibilities:

The below-given overview is about the roles and responsibilities you will have in the APEGS competency assessment system:

1.   You need to offer work experience details through the competency assessment system, including work experience chronology and specific examples to address all competencies.

2.   It is a must for you to offer a self-assessed Competence Level for each Competency as per the Competency Rating Scale.

3.   You will be required to provide contact information for a minimum of four individuals to work as Validators to verify and offer feedback on your competency assessment. For those Validators who were not provided with the specific competencies to validate, they need to provide an overall assessment. For example, if you provided examples from only one supervisor who validates all the examples and the other three Validators offer general comments and answer the general reference questions included in the APEGS CBA system. You can’t act as your own validator.

4.   You need to provide further if the APEGS assessors ask you for that.
