In a groundbreaking move, the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses are poised to revolutionize the lives of individuals with visual impairments, thanks to a landmark partnership with Be My Eyes, a leading accessibility service provider. Be My Eyes offers free human and AI-driven support to users who are blind or have low vision, connecting them with sighted volunteer helpers who can provide real-time descriptions of visual fields or objects, read text, navigate spaces, or answer questions.

With the introduction of a seamless integration between the accessibility app and Meta's wearable technology, owners of the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses can now access the Be My Eyes "Call a Volunteer" feature using voice commands alone. By simply saying, "Hey Meta, Call a Volunteer on Be My Eyes," users can be paired with multilingual audio or video support.

Moreover, users can effortlessly switch between their glasses and smartphone cameras, enabling volunteers and users to communicate in a variety of ways.

This collaboration marks a significant milestone for Meta, as its technology was previously incompatible with smart glasses or other hands-free devices.

“Our partnership with Meta introduces an experience that addresses a long-standing request from our community of blind and low-vision users: hands-free access to our services,” wrote Be My Eyes CEO Mike Buckley. “The Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses have made this possible, and with our integration, we have unlocked unprecedented levels of accessibility, opening up new opportunities for individuals navigating their daily lives. This is just the beginning.”

In the past, Be My Eyes has collaborated with industry giants like Google and Microsoft to expand its reach, and has experienced significant growth over the years — with over 7 million volunteers now on board. In 2023, the company launched a new venture to meet growing demand: generative AI. In partnership with OpenAI and ChatGPT, Be My Eyes introduced its AI-powered virtual volunteer, providing instant chat-based support.
