If you are enjoying your mobility scooter but want to ride it outside your house, and outside its limited battery range, then you have found the right article to read. You will find three ways extend your mobility range by loading your scooter onto a car, truck, van or minivan. Not all of the options are suitable for everybody. The three ways to extend the range of your scooter are: The swing-in scooter lift, The scooter carrier lift, and The mobility scooter hybrid lift. Let's take a quick look at how each of these carrier lifts can help you load and transport your mobility scooter.

The swing-in mobile scooter lift

This is the simplest mobile scooter lift. It is usually attached to the hitch of the car. It is a crane-like structure with a line that lifts the scooter up and swings it into the car's trunk, and then lowers it into the trunk. You can use it in most vans, or trucks as well. The swing-in scooter lift is one of the least expensive mobile scooter lifts available for purchase. The downside of this type of mobile scooter lift is that it requires a limited physical strength to manually swing the lift into the trunk. However, that strength does not even begin to compare with the strength needed to lift the scooter.

The mobility scooter carrier lift

This scooter lift will usually be attached to the hitch of the car. It operates by first lowering the lift platform to the ground, then driving the scooter onto the lift platform, and then simply raising the lift platform to the normal driving level. Because it includes the lifting platform and the electric motor to lift the platform with the scooter on it, this is a more costly option. Its advantage is that it does not require any physical strength of the operator. It can be used with a sedan, truck, van, or minivan.

The mobility scooter hybrid lift

The hybrid version of a scooter carrier works with vans and minivans. It combines the best features of the swing in scooter lift and the scooter carrier lift. It enables storage and transportation of the scooter inside the van or minivan, in place of the second row of the seats. The way hybrid mobility scooter lift works is to first lower the lift platform to the ground. This platform is positioned in front of the sliding side door of the van or minivan. Then, when the mobile scooter is at the right height, it slides it straight into the van or minivan. The advantage of the hybrid lift is that it brings the scooter for kids closer to the driver or passenger door. Second, the mobility scooter is secured inside of the van providing more security. Also the parking and navigating the van will not be affected when the mobility scooter is inside the van.

The only downside of the hybrid lift model is its price, it is slightly more costly than the regular mobility scooter carrier lift. These are the three mobile scooter lifts that will enable you to transport your scooter using your car, truck or van. If you have limited mobility and were thus far not able to ride your mobility scooter outside of the range of your batteries, a simple mobility scooter carrier lift will extend your range as far you care to drive it. Your mobility options will expand dramatically.
