This piece explores techniques used to simulate antique Japanese Lacquerware. Usually done with Urushi a toxic resin from a tree I am using special paints and layering them and rubbing away layers to expose previously painted colors. This item can be used as a display piece of art or have a utilitarian use on a night stand as a jewelry keeper or catch all for rings and things. The form is turned on a wood lathe and the overlapping line is carved to appear like a wrap around belt attached with brass nails. The piece is 3 inch diameter by 3 inches tall.
