E'Twaun Moore Jersey Although Aidan Hutchinson came out of Michigan's playoff run in 2021 with No. 1 overall pick buzz, David Ojabo may have been the player most impacted by the Wolverines' improbable appearance against Georgia. The defensive end played just one game in 2020 before turning in an 11-sack season one of the most potent pa s rushes in the country last year, and he was seen as a No. 10-15 overall pick after his impre sive showing.NFL DRAFT BETTING:Unfortunately, Ojabo tore his Achilles during his pro day workout, damaging those prospects. For a player whose draw is his athleticism, a torn Achilles is an injury that has to be treated with extreme care. However, history suggests Ojabo's injury doesn't prohibit him from going in the first round in this year's NFL Draft. In short, Ojabo plays at a premium position. This year's draft has no shortage of high-upside edge rushers -- indeed, three of the top players being mocked to the Jaguars at No. 1 play the position -- but Ojabo could find himself going toward the end of the first round. By that time, Kayvon Thibodeaux, Aidan Hutchinson, and Travon Walker would all be off the board.Teams like the Chiefs -- who seem to have little to no urgency to re-sign Melvin Ingram -- and the Buccaneers, who are in a similar position with Jason Pierre-Paul, may have interest in a rehab project. Ojabo has some of the best twitch muscles for an edge rusher in this year's draft, and long-term he may be even more impactful than Hutchinson if he can nail down his footwork.BENDER: J.J. Redick Jersey A torn Achilles takes time to heal, time some teams may not feel they have. The Buccaneers have every intention to compete after Tom Brady's return, New Orleans Pelicans T-Shirts and having Ojabo could help them toward that end. However, if they feel their window is more of a crack after Brady's departure, they may want to draft a player who can make an immediate impact. Other teams are in similar situations, particularly the Chiefs, who are still in need of wide receivers. On top of the competitivene s angle, Ojabo's position requires explosive burst off the outside. If this injury lingers past his return date, someone whose early production was already called into question may find himself taking longer than expected to make players with the regularity of a top 32 pick.Ojabo was thought to be on a six-month timeline when the injury initially occurred, which means he could get some snaps in his rookie year. The question is if it will be enough and how productive he'll be.MOCK DRAFT: While there's hardly a 1:1 comparison for Ojabo in this year's draft, he's a bit of an amalgamation of Sidney Jones and Jaylon Smith.Smith was a top-five pick who fell to the Cowboys at No. 34 overall after tearing his ACL and LCL in Notre Dame's bowl game. Smith never truly recovered, and was cut by Dallas George Hill Jersey last year before stints with the Packers and Giants.Jones, meanwhile, is a better comparison as he also tore his Achilles on his pro day in 2017, bringing him from a first-round pick to a second-rounder taken No. 43 overall by the Eagles.Jones has had his ups and downs, but he's become a solid piece of the Seahawks defense, having just re-signed this season after starting 11 games last year.Ojabo was closer to Smith's draft status, but his injury more resembled Jones'. In this year's draft, which doesn't have much elite talent, there's a decent chance we see the Michigan star go towards the end of Ike Anigbogu Jersey the first round to a team that can have patience, e.g. the Lions at 32 or the Bills at 25 (though 25 would be early). The other thing is, when you're potentially losing a season of production from a player, the fifth-year option of a first-round pick looks far more enticing.Ojabo still has plenty of NFL upside, but the flags are planted. He's dealing with injuries, he had just one year of great college production, and he plays at a position where it's tremendously hard to be elite at at the NFL level. All it takes is one team willing to take a risk. That's what Ojabo is banking on as his recovery continues.
