Countless ACS Migration Skills assessment applications face rejection, as applicants are unable to demonstrate their eligibility. Sometimes, even a bright candidate faces rejection, and one with average-level competency attains a positive assessment. The reason is many candidates prepare their applications without paying heed to the requirements. Thus, their applications sound weak and not convincing.

Having taken this fact into account, we wrote this blog to familiarize you with the ACS Migration Skills assessment eligibility criteria as per each of the four application types. Knowing these criteria will help you better prepare your application, which will help you attain a positive assessment.

Eligibility criteria:

The criteria are different according to the work experience and educational qualifications of a candidate:

  1. Temporary graduate:

You must complete an Australian Bachelor’s degree or higher, and the degree needs to be an ICT Major and closely relevant to your nominated occupation. It’s not required that you have worked in the field.

  1. Post Australian Study Skills assessment:

To use this pathway, you are required to have an Australian Bachelor’s degree or higher. The Australian qualification must be an ICT major and closely relevant to the chosen occupation. Aside from that, complete 1 year of related post-study work experience or complete the ACS Professional Year program.

  1. Skills:

  • If you possess a bachelor’s degree or higher and the degree is closely relevant to the occupation, and it is an ICT major, you are required to demonstrate 2 years of related work experience in the last 10 years or 4 years of related work experience attained anytime in the past.

  • In the case of a bachelor’s degree or higher and the degree is not closely relevant to your occupation, and it is an ICT major, show 4 years of related work experience acquired anytime in the past.

  • If having a bachelor’s degree or higher and the degree is closely relevant to your occupation, and it is an ICT minor, you need to demonstrate 5 years of related work experience in the last 10 years or 6 years of related work experience earned anytime in the past.

  • In the case of having a bachelor’s degree or higher and the degree is not closely relevant to your occupation, and it is an ICT minor, show 6 years of related work experience earned anytime in the past.

  • If having a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree and the qualification is closely relevant to your occupation, and it is an ICT major, show 5 years of related work experience in the last 10 years or 6 years of related work experience gained anytime in the past.

  • If having a Diploma, Advanced Diploma or Associate Degree and the qualification is not closely relevant to your occupation, and it is an ICT major, demonstrate 6 years of related work experience anytime in the past.

  1. RPL:

If you have a non-ICT Diploma or higher, you are required to have 6 years of related work experience and a successful RPL application.

If you are without any tertiary qualification, you are required to have 8 years of relevant work experience and a successful RPL application.

For an RPL ACS skill assessment, demonstrate how you attained your ICT knowledge. It involves the submission of 2 project reports. The report needs to contain the details of your career episode and show ICT knowledge in a working situation.
