Amazon Game Studios has delayed its upcoming MMO, New World
Less than one month before it was set to go live, the fantasy MMO New World has been delayed yet again. Amazon announced today that based on feedback received during the recent closed beta, it has decided to take a little more time to tighten things up and push the launch back until the end of September.
New World's development team said on Twitter that it " will be making some improvements" based on what players encountered in the closed beta, which ended on Monday. " We're taking a few extra weeks to fix bugs, improve stability and finish the game," the developer said.
Amazon Games said it was " not an easy decision" to postpone the game again. " We want to ensure that the most dedicated players have plenty of middle and endgame experiences as they venture through Aeternum," studio director Rich Lawrence said at the time. " We want our players to feel completely immersed in the game, and know that our studio stands for quality and lasting gameplay you can trust，We know this isn't the first time we've changed the release date in our pursuit of quality, and it can be disappointing to wait a little longer, but we do want to make sure we deliver the best possible game upon release."
Amazon Studios held one last closed beta between July 20 and August 2, which was well played. According to Amazon, more than a million people have played the test version, which together accounted for more than 16 million hours of playtime. The beta version also suffered from some technical issues, including a notable issue that caused some players' RTX 3090 video cards to burn out while playing the game. The developer of New World released a patch within 24 hours that would limit the framerate in the menus and thus fix these crashes. It concerned at least 30 burned-out RTX 3090 GPUs from EVGA, all of which are being replaced by the manufacturer.
