As a first aider, you are expected to have certain qualifications and certifications that make you eligible to provide medical assistance in case of an emergency. However, it is not just the certificates that define a good first aider. There are five important principles that every qualification of first aider must abide by to ensure effective treatment.

The first principle is to assess the situation and act accordingly. It involves evaluating the severity of the injury or illness and determining what kind of help is required. The second principle is to prioritize treatment based on the injuries' level of urgency- life-threatening injuries should be treated before minor ones.

The third principle is communication- a good first aider must communicate clearly with both the patient and other medical professionals involved in treating them. Fourthly, they must maintain confidentiality at all times while providing care for a patient.
