NBA 2K Players Claim They have been scammed out by 'At-Least $215,000' NBA 2K is a virtual basketball league that allows players to play against strangers and friends via voice chat and online play modes.
The trend was sparked last month by the hashtag #givetheirmoneyback. alleged that prominent figure in the community @StepBackRack (who has over 3,600 Twitch followers and is known more commonly as "Rack") was able to steal several hundred thousand dollars from the Australian and New Zealand community, in what's believed to be an investment scam. It's alleged another gamer named @Raangee was part of the scam.
Tyceno, streamer and YouTuber was the first to expose the scam. He persuaded young gamers to hand over thousands of dollars in exchange for the promise to make thousands of dollars. "I have good reason to believe that @StepBackRack is the person behind an enormous illegal pyramid scheme that was uncovered in the NBA 2K community, in which over $200,000 was taken away from susceptible victims who believed that they could 'flip' their money," Tyceno wrote.
It's unclear if Rack or Raangee knew of the scam or whether their accounts were compromised. We've tried many times to reach them, but with no success. Tyceno and other suspects spoke to us about how "Rack" spoke via voice chat to a variety of gamers in the age group.
