From Film To Digital: The Evolution Of X-Ray Detectors
Optically stimulated luminescence dosimeters (OSLDs) are similar to TLDs, but they use a different type of crystal that emits light when exposed to a laser instead of radiation. The amount of light emitted is proportional to the amount of radiation that the crystal has been exposed to, allowing OSLDs to measure the amount of radiation that a person or object has been exposed to over a certain period of time. With X Ray Detectors, the energy carried by radiation is transformed into shapes that may be identified electronically or visually.
X Ray Detectors are recognised to have numerous uses in the fields of medicine, industry, security, veterinary medicine, and dentistry. Ionization chamber dosimeters use a gas-filled chamber to measure the amount of radiation that passes through it. When radiation enters the chamber, it ionizes the gas, creating a measurable electrical current. The amount of current is proportional to the amount of radiation that has passed through the chamber, allowing ionization chamber dosimeters to measure the amount of radiation that a person or object has been exposed to.
