If you are looking for a barrows set, I would recommend Veracs OSRS Gold. The skirt and helm provide the most defense in their particular positions (of the barrows armours) while the brassard has a slight weaker than Guthan's, Torag's or the plates of Dharok. The brassard, however, Verac's provides a good prayer bonus (unlike other armours for barrows) and also makes an exceptional set.
As I'm sure you already have Dragon Legs and you're aiming towards a torso that can fight, and what I'd suggest for you to do is keep them as your primary armor, but bring Guthan's set to use its unique attack as a healing mechanism.
This way your main armor set will not degrade and offensive friendly (torso is stronger than barrows). Also keep in mind that aside from Dharok's and Verac's in certain scenarios any other Barrows Sets (including this weapon) can be used in a non-useful manner.
The top three options I'd suggest to you is The skirt of Verac's and Dragon Legs together with Fighter torso. Abyssal Whip/Dragon Defender (you can have a Guthan's set that heals you as well). Torag's Plate and Legs to Whip or Defender. This offers a high level of defense, but for most situations it is nearly redundant as you don't suffer much damage anyways. The Verac's Brassard and Skirt along with whip. The whole set is employed for certain tasks, including Kalphite queen as well as barrows or PvP.
It really is a group effort. You may be a good keyer but without a equally competent team, it's not worth anything. You can play like 5:5 largers with 2-3 good people including yourself RS 3 Gold. This could be someone who has that has quit rage or is sort of leeching/not doing anything.
