While we Madden 22 coins have just a few days until we know who will be featured on the cover this year and we've decided to take it upon ourselves to roll through a few candidates who might be eligible to be worthy of this distinction. Below are our top three choices for an athlete who will be a cover model as well as our top options if EA Sports chooses to cover a pair of players, as the teaser suggests.
The Madden NFL's four most recent cover athletes were quarterbacks. It makes sense that our top pick would be someone who can line up underneath the center. Following a season in 2020 which he was an MVP quarterback, Bills quarterback Josh Allen is an ideal candidate for the next chapter of the videogame franchise. Allen has set new career records in passing yards and passing touchdowns last year and had Buffalo on the brink of being in the running for a Super Bowl appearance after appearing in the AFC Championship. Allen is a superstar at this point in his career and Bills Mafia certainly would like to have him become the first franchise player to have his name -and the team's logo on the cover.
If you're not interested in having to protect the quarterback, then I don't see how you can overlook Derrick Henry. In fact there was a possibility of a leak back in March which suggested Henry as the cover athlete. While it remains unknown whether or not he'll appear on this year's cover, Henry is certainly deserving of the honor. In some instances, the large-bodied running back appears like something from video games when the defenders he takes often on a regular basis. Henry has led the NFL in rushing for consecutive seasons and has beaten all skill position players in 2020, with the longest number of years from the scrimmage (2,141). If an entire season in which you average 126.7 yards of rushing per game can't land you the cover of Madden NFL, I'm not sure what will.
While some may be offended by the notion of a defensive player making his way onto the Madden NFL cover, it isn't at all unusual. Richard Sherman was the last defense player to make the Madden NFL 15 cover athlete. Ray Lewis (Madden NFL 2005) and Troy Polamalu were also there. If you're looking to that particular side of the ball for a cover athlete, there's none more dominant than Donald, who has been in the 99 Club for four straight seasons. With this in mind the only place you can climb in the game is finally getting on the cover.
Following the release of the teaser earlier in the week, everyone thought that it was the result of a combination. Of course, Tom Brady is widely described as the greatest player of all time (G.O.A.T) and Patrick Mahomes is looked at as the next great quarterback to follow the footsteps of his predecessors. Therefore, it's only normal to think that there's a possibility -- or even a possibility -- that there are two athletes on the cover. But when EA Sports trots out an elder goat and a baby goat in its teaser,, it's hard not to think of Brady and Mahomes. Both quarterbacks have appeared on the madden 22 mut coins Cover before, with Brady doing it for Madden NFL 18, and Mahomes taking the lead in Madden NFL 20.
