In a new announcement, EA Sports told IGN:
We are not averse to Madden 22 coins discuss rumors or speculation, but we're determined to continue to enhance Franchise as part of our ongoing Madden NFL 22 live streaming service, and even beyond. It includes two upcoming Franchise updates we'll be releasing within Madden NFL 22. We'll provide more details on these updates in the new year.
This announcement comes in response to a report by Sports Gamers Online that EA has decided to stop any further game mode franchise updates in Madden 22. The IGN report was based on an discussion with Madden 22 director of production Seann Graddy. She claimed that this year's content plan is "slightly more modest than previous years before" due to the fact that the team is concentrated on a few important areas instead of trying to roll out features on the level of Superstar KO, a well-received arcade mode that was introduced with Madden 20.
"I would suggest that [the roadmap may be a bit more modest than in the past because we're focused on a handful of core elements from Madden 22 and also getting going on Madden 23 in a big way," Graddy said at the time. "So I'm sticking to the same thing we've said for the last couple of years that we're a live service and we'll continue to improve games, though we're not talking about a completely new mode."
The report was a source of attention in part due to the fact that franchise mode is a source of contention for certain Madden fans. Indeed, the promised roadmap was first announced in response to the #fixmaddenfranchise hashtag that circulated Twitter in the middle of 2020. It began after news that EA was not planning any improvements to franchise mode in the year prior.
Since this time, EA has released new commissioner tools as well as other enhancements, including a major overhaul of their scouting systems. Madden 22 also introduced an enhanced scene engine, cutscenes from the season and coaching skills trees.
