For reference, 200 hours would be a long time for OSRS gold getting a skill up to 99. It is less effective in combat. This isn't only a matter of wearing it. The statistics don't decrease slowly. They're great, and they stop when it goes between 25% and the 0% mark. I cannot understand why you would shell out more money for a less durable piece of armor based on the requirement to shell out a small amount of money each 15-hour period of battle. The reason that dragon plates are so expensive has nothing to be related to their value is that they're extremely difficult to acquire.
