Soluble in formamide and water, slightly soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid, methanol, acetone and ether. Sulfamic Acid as a detergent is commercially produced from fuming sulfuric acid and urea and is a strong inorganic acid. Sulfamic Acid stabilizes longer at room temperature with dilute aqueous solution. However, rapid hydrolysis occurs at high temperatures. Sulfamic Acid is considered less corrosive to metals than other strong acids such as hydrochloric acid. Because sulfamic acid retains the capacity to dissolve scale, it is considered to remove cooling towers, boilers, coils and condensers.
