Methylprednisolone (what is methylprednisolone) can change your mood or behavior. If you experience depression, emotional fluctuations, sleep difficulties, anxiety, or hallucinations (hearing or seeing things that do not exist) during the use of this medication, please inform your doctor immediately.
Decreased adrenal function
Risk factors: long-term use of methylprednisolone (methylprednisolone); Mental stress, such as trauma, injury, or infection
Changes in heart and kidney function
Risk factors: Recent heart attacks | History of heart failure, hypertension, or kidney problems
Methylprednisolone (methylprednisolone) can cause changes in body fluids and electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, and calcium. This can lead to high blood pressure, swelling, and kidney problems. In addition, some studies have shown that using methylprednisolone (Medrol) after a recent heart attack can damage the heart. If you have a history of heart failure, heart attack, hypertension, or kidney problems, please inform your doctor before using this medication.
Gastric problems
Risk factors: history of gastric bleeding or ulcer | history of Ulcerative colitis | taking other drugs that may cause stomach problems | drinking
Taking methylprednisolone (methylprednisolone) increases the risk of gastric injury, leading to certain problems such as gastric irritation, and more severe ulcers and bleeding. If you have a history of stomach disease, or you are taking other drugs that will damage your stomach, such as Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAIDs), your risk will be higher. When taking this medicine, one should avoid drinking alcohol, as drinking alcohol can exacerbate stomach irritation. If your stomach pain does not disappear, or if you have blood or black feces, go to see a doctor immediately. These may be signs of severe stomach disease.
Long term use can cause bone problems
Risk factors: high-dose or prolonged use of methylprednisolone (Medrol) | Risk of osteoporosis (such as female, history of falls, smoking) | Infants and young children
Long term use of methylprednisolone (methylprednisolone) can reduce calcium absorption and weaken bones. Over time, this will lead to or worsen adult osteoporosis or slow down the growth of children. If you have previous fractures or osteoporosis (osteoporosis), tell your doctor about your risks before using this medication.
