Star and Buc Wild Take Hip Hop Radio to the Next Level

Star & Buc Wild appeal to the commonality among people with a fast-paced, topical and worldly show that laughs, learns and occasionally hates for your entertainment and enlightenment. Starting as a magazine publisher and columnist, their ingenuity garnered the attention of radio producers, and the duo's enigmatic personalities soon caught the eye of MTV, with whom they launched their public access cable program "Universal Haters," which allowed them greater opportunities to develop within a visual medium.

Star and Buc Wild are also in the process of launching a web-based radio and TV show that will allow them to monetize their online audience. This move allows them to continue to build their brand while reaching a younger and potentially larger audience.

A recent visit to the Star & Buc Wild studio revealed that the new-generation of radio talent is poised to take the show to the next level. The show's co-hosts, White Trash Helene, Chris the Queer and the new Buc Wild (the original one is on a spiritual sabbatical), play Greek chorus to Star as he yells, philosophizes, rants and taunts.

The sardonic and outrageous verbal dressdowns for which the Scotch Plains native is famous, however, remain intact, with Star hammering anyone from Fidel Castro to Third World missionaries, and warning travelers against the dangerous Dominican water that he says is contaminated by viruses.

In addition to hammering celebrities, politicians and other media figures, the duo's show is heavily rooted in Hip Hop culture, allowing listeners to call in with dedications and condolences to mourn the deaths of rappers like 2Pac and Aaliyah. The two have also been known to prank callers and roast them with ribbing that ranges from the mundane to the downright absurd.

Despite all of the controversy that has surrounded the show, Star says that she still loves and respects her listeners. She reiterates that steps have been taken to insure that there are no repeats of the incident and again emphasized that she didn't spend the entire shift bashing or making fun of Aaliyah.

I told her about cats rushing local DJs and comedians who dared mock 2Pac's death, and she agreed that she understood. She went on to say that while she supports the right of fans to protest, she felt that the petition circulated outside the Bay Area was based on Internet rumors and that the majority of people who were angry about the situation understand that Star did not make this a personal attack.

The interview also touched on the death of Buckwild star Shain Gandee, who along with his uncle and a friend died April 1 when their vehicle ran off the road in West Virginia while they were off-roading (or mudding). The sheriff's office has ruled the deaths accidental due to carbon monoxide poisoning. Gandee, 21, was a big fan of the show, and often sent t-shirts and other memorabilia to the production team, according to TMZ. The t-shirts were signed by the crew, including Star.star bucwild
