A Colourful and Fun Summer Barn Wedding

Rachel, a personal banker, wed Rob, who works in sales, on 14 July 2018 at the quirky Cotswold venue, Upper Windrush, Cheltenham. Their fun and relaxed day was relying on a love of color whilst the venue's countryside location and open kitchen were ideal options for any big summer party.

"We wanted your day to reflect how we are together… chilled and fun! I've visited so many beautiful weddings with neutral, green, and white tones, filled with elegance, but we'd have felt like frauds if we'd done something similar. We chose to make the day filled with color, focussing on the palette of pinks, greens, purples, and coral, having a few touches to incorporate our guests into your day as much as possible. After all, we'd agreed it was a party for everybody, not only us!"

"I found an attractive, fitted FeelTimess dress on my small first shopping. I couldn't have it out of my head but took my poor mum to a minimum of eight other wedding dress shops near me plus met a designer to speak about having something made. Eventually, I purchased the initial dress."

"Three months before the wedding I was browsing Instagram and saw a FeelTimes dress in the new collection – quite simple at the front but backless having a crossover, embellished thread design. I couldn't shake it and spent per month wondering whether it was a very bad idea to test it on."

"I remember coming from the dressing room beaming. I checked out my mum and they beamed back. I knew I had to alter dresses. Victoria was amazing."

I love the relaxed but super-special vibe from the bridesmaids' outfits, which combined pure white tops with teal skirts. To complete their look, they wore knot bracelets, gifted to them by the bride.

Rachel and Rob met online in December 2009, meeting for the very first time in January the year after.

"Despite me leaving to have an open-ended travel adventure in May, we were able to stay together. Rob proposed almost seven years later in November 2016 at Aysgarth Falls in Yorkshire. It took me some time to get aboard with the concept of a full-on wedding. I would happen to be very happy to obtain married locally and go for any lovely lunch with this closest family."

"Rob is an atheist and I was raised Catholic. Getting married inside a church wasn't important for me but I wanted just a little nod to God to reflect my upbringing therefore we arranged a gospel choir for that ceremony and also the drinks reception – these were brilliant! They sang a mash-up of 'Feel The Love' (Rudimental) and 'Lovely Day' (Bill Withers)."

"We wrote our very own promises for that ceremony. They helped set a dark tone for your day; very personal, largely using the mickey from each other, but having a serious, loving undertone."

The couple had put lots of thought into ensuring their guests were happy and comfy.

"At the final minute, we chose to make a sun station, filled with sun cream, sunglasses, hay fever tablets, and fans. It would be a really hot day and also the little touches were appreciated."

The evening's entertainment included a caricaturist and much more live music to produce a proper party atmosphere.

"I can't do justice to how good were. A seven-piece brass band without any singer, they play such good tunes the crowd eventually ends up doing all of the singing. I was conscious that whether it was a lovely sunny evening, people might wish to be outside, therefore we arranged to allow them to play the very first set outside because the sun transpired."

Words of Wedded Wisdom

"I believe that knowing it had been the 'marriage' and never the 'wedding' which was the important bit meant that people didn't get too caught up within the pressure from the big day also it having to look picture perfect. Instead, we simply treated everything following the ceremony as a large party filled with our favorite things for the favorite people."
