The sources of A Course in Wonders could be tracked back once again to the effort between two people, Helen Schucman and William Thetford, both of whom were prominent psychologists and researchers. The course's inception happened in early 1960s when Schucman, who had been a clinical and study psychiatrist at Columbia University's School of Physicians and Surgeons, began to experience a series of internal dictations. She explained these dictations as coming from an interior voice that determined it self as Jesus Christ. Schucman originally resisted these activities, but with Thetford's inspiration, she began transcribing the communications she received.
Over a period of seven years, Schucman transcribed what would become A Program in Miracles, amounting to three quantities: the Text, the Workbook for Pupils, and the Handbook for Teachers. The Text sits out the theoretical basis acim authors of the program, elaborating on the core concepts and principles. The Book for Students includes 365 classes, one for every single day of the season, designed to steer the reader by way of a daily practice of using the course's teachings.
